Lift install

This has turned into a pretty good thread. Sounds like Ed has earned himself a pretty good reputation for his 'help'. :greensmok

I agree. Just between us...tonight you should ask for a place to help out within the next couple of weeks while everyone is in a good mood and eager to eat and drink. I think you might get 6-8 "helpers". Something tells me we could knock this out with some quickness.

I might be hurt if I actually went to these things to "help", and not just to "supervise". :jester:

you can have my share of the beerz since i don't drink em' anymore...:confused1

All this talk of banging it out in a day has me motivated. I have pretty much zero time until the new year though, and even then I start grad school back up. Maybe sometime in January or February I can get request for "helpers" and maybe some driveway space (don't mind renting space for a reasonable fee). If I am really lucky, maybe my buddy and dad will help me knock it out one weekend at the parents place. Would like to have it done by spring time so I can go hit up some trails when things start to dry out a bit.

Thanks for the pep talk guys.

we are heading to hollister on the 8th.
tag along so we can meet you.
if you are cool people then a day at the fun factory could be arranged...

What's the plan for Hollister on the 8th? I might be able to make it, meet some people, and then putt around a bit in my stock Jeep. Judging by what you guys usually run, I don't think I'll be following you around too much, though.

my 4x4 club is going to hollister on the 8th to putter around.
i'll probably be bringing my red p.o.s. to pound on. :firedevil
see pics here: http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1042976

there are many fun trails you can run with a stock rig, it will surprise you, plus there is always someone who can pull you out if you get stuck.

pack a lunch & bring something to drink & come have some fun.

Definitely considering Hollister on the 8th just to get out there a bit. I don't even have A/T tires, so any mud and I'll be useless.

but you will be entertaining to watch... just kidding. you will have tons of fun, besides i always do stupid things with my red p.o.s.

I'll see if I can get my front tow hooks installed by then. I am out of town all next week though, but we'll see. I have a rear hitch and hook for it, so I am good there.

Good thread. Wouldn't mind seeing pics of the install. I have a stock '91 I am thinking of doing, any recommendations on the best 1-3" lift kit out there? You have the OME? I'd pretty much want the highest quality, install myself. Whats up with the tera flex budget boost and stuff like that? No good? Opinions?

2" OME lift is great. You'll lift on a budget and love the results, especially if you get a lift with full leaf packs. The 2" OME lift was installed on my current rig when I bought it and I removed it for the 5.5" RE lift. I debated whether to leave it on because it drove so well, but the taller lift and tires eventually won. It was hard breaking a really good system, but 30.5" tires was too limiting for what I wanted.

What time are you planning on being at Hollister? Looks like I'll go out there for a while just to say hi and putt around. I didn't get my front tow hooks installed yet, so just another reason not to try anything to silly.

You'll be in the Red p.o.s.? Should be easy enough to spot.

Mine looks like this

Slow moving this morning, but we'll make it down there. Hopefully by 11am.

@Tim -- So here is what I have to install...

Used OME leafs and coils (have U-bolts too). Hoping for 2.5", maybe 3" of lift
Bilstein 5100's for 2-3" of lift and use the stock mounts
JKS Quicker disco's
Front tow hooks (I could do these on my own if time becomes an issue)

And if you're up for it, should I get brakelines to install the same day? I used a Dakota rear on my last Jeep and was way long for 3" of lift. For the fronts, can I just straighten the hardline and re-mount with my little lift?

I also want a ZJ tie rod setup, but that may have to wait until I can get to the junkyard.

I would like to put an adjustable tracbar on at some point, but I can do that on my own at a later date as well.

Anything else you (or anyone who reads this) can think of?

Almost forgot...I've got a set of 4" bumpstops to put in the rear. May or may not have to space them down though.

You gonna drop the TC down a bit? Got spacers?

Also, do you need to drill the track bar mount for a 2.5" lift, or is the geometry close enough with a stock setup?

I wasn't planning on a TC drop unless I need it. Hopefully it will be fine without it since it's an earlier year.

And on my last Xj ('94), the axle was only shifted to the side about .25" with 3" of lift. It drove straight and never caused an issue, so I left it on the stock track bar. For this XJ, I will likely put a heavier duty adjustable tracbar on just so I know it's strong and adjusted correctly.
