lap-band

So by reducing the volume of your stomach, it makes it impossible to drink sugary drinks?

no but frm what I understand (I dont have this done so I have no first hand experiense but I have a friend that did it) is that high sugar drinks will make you sick and you will puke it back up so it forces you to drink mainly water. Also you can not have carbonated drinks as your stomach cannot "expand" for it :explosion

Ummm when normal people drink carbonated drinks, dont they ummm "burp"?

It seems you are suggesting that your stomach will physically explode before pressure is released up your esophagus?

There are several variations of the surgeries. You can get the surgery where only several feet of your small intestine are removed (approved for treatment of Diabetes), or this in combination with the stomach being divided into two sections, one very small and one larger (not connected to your mouth). This is what is commonly called gastric bypass surgery.

The lap band is a way that they use kind of a zip tie that ties off a portion of the stomach so it sees no food. It can be used by itself to limit intake or combined with the reduction of the small intestine.

If the small intestine is bypassed, what is left is not accustomed to seeing raw sugars and it will trigger what is called dumping. That is where you get sick to your stomach and throw up or get diareha.

wow guys thanks for the huge support, I didnt even look back to check if anyone replied because i assumed that no one would care. Im stunned by the support.

Im 5'11" and weight approx 380pds. We just had a baby 2 weeks ago and we also have a 5 year old, to be 100% honest im scared stiff of dying and leaving my daughters without the guidance of their father. I have tried and tried and nothing seems to work. Atkins, Weight watchers, brown rice and chicken breast, exercise, newest one is Hoodithin a hoodia liquid extract. Recently i started having odd heart beating patterns. beats really fast then really slow, have been short of breath, pouring sweat when i take a nap. All these things have me worried

hoodia so far as it's produced is a snake oil....it will do what they say but it can't be produced enough for mass consumption

also, when your heart starts to murmor like that make yourself cough and it will right itself, I used to have pretty nasty stress effects like that and doctor said to do that

I understand being with little ones, mine are in their late 20's and I wouldn't have wanted to miss any of it.
As said above the family will need a "lifestyle change". Dieting doesn't work because a "diet" is something you do and then go back to old habits.
For those of us just a bit overweight a pound a week is a chore, less food, more exercise and not that easy. For you, a pound a week might seem easy and not worth the time, but your body shouldn't miss the slow change and when you reach your "goal" you will be a whole (half?) new you.

Good luck and take care,
Mike

As others have said start with the lifestyle change. Lapband is not as safe as the billboard say, the best way to lose weight will always be lifestyle changes, it's the most difficult way to do it but it just plain works, you just gotta get your head 100% into it.

Do you buy lunch at work? A good way to save both money and weight is to pack your lunch, I lost ten pounds by only doing that (no lifestyle changes) awhile back, when making your own lunch you can get something that fills you up without all the BS that comes with eating out.

I need to start this whole exercise stuff myself, while I could lose a few pounds I'd just like to have better stamina and not get quite as winded when doing trail maintenance at 7,000 ft!

PS - I'd also get a doctor's perspective in the whole game, from what sort of activities it is safe for you to do and to explore other options. Don't go with one of the LapBand recommended doctors though, get your own real doctor who is not on the payroll of a brand.

Might have you doctor check out your thyroid too, that might be some of my problem (runs in the family) but I'm not too keen on having that looked at until I have some decent insurance (which right now looks like it'll require me fiding a different job:( ) I don't take it harder in ther rear financially than I already am.
