King of The Hammers 2011

Saw Tony leaving on Friday. Saw the big, nice Bronco with HIDs, and said, "Bet that's Tony". Woulda stopped ya, but we were heading in, and you were heading out in a big line. :D

My buddy shot these and a bunch more, thought these were cool and appropiate on here. PM with an e-mail if someone wants the high-res versions.

Chris

Damn, it's taken a week to catch up after being out there for 7 days. Mac, sorry I missed you, a shame since you where all the way out here. Would have been nice to visit with you and Stan and the rest of the guys.

Since we couldn't race (had to drop out of the LCQ), I worked as pit crew chief for four cars, Sean Rose, Travis Watford, Rob Usnick, and Jason Spegal. Jason qualified in the LCQ and the rest of the guys were already qualified. We had a big pit tent, which was nice, since it was pretty dusty out there this year. It's amazing how much is going on, and how much you want to do but you just can't get to it. It's a pretty intense week, and a ton of fun.

Out of our group, Rob sheared all the hub studs on his Toy front axle and was out a few miles into the 2nd lap, we had tightened them in the pits but they were toast. Sean rolled 1/2 ways through the 2nd lap on Outer Limits and he and Pete couldn't self recover, even with the help of another car that was broken down close to them, so they we stuck and out. Travis broke a CV on his rear driveshaft going up Jackhammer on the 2nd lap, and they spent two hours fixing it in the dark, and ended up coming in after the time cutoff. Jason drove out from Kentucky and kept the car together for a finish at 9:45, just 15 minutes before the close.

We had some confusion with the recovery crew, and ended up heading out at 11:00 PM in my buggy to recover Sean and Pete who were still rolled on Outer Limits, and to help the guy, John Sweet from Kentucky, who was still broken close to them. Did we mention that it was cold?? We got them both going and I ended up having to tow John Sweet down Outer Limits since his trans was toast. Another guy in a Jeep towed him back from there. We got back to the pits at 3:30 am.

Can't wait 'till next year!

I stopped by once and chatted with Sean for bit, but never got back over there. We were busy as well all week. Reading your story I'm glad we finished and didn't have to recover anything after dark. John Bjorm found me and hung out a couple times.

Rosco Racin isn't a part of Branik, we are our own thing now.

But that's a story for the next time around a campfire with some booze...maybe Rausch Creek?

mac 'I thought it could've been a lot dustier' gyvr
