What is the part number for the towers that you are using?
I'd like a gutter-mount setup that puts the rack as close to the roof (low) as possible. I would remove the OE bars.
Anybody have a low profile system they can recommend?

The Thule rain gutter mount I am using is number 300 and I am using 50" load bars. The bars fit just right with virtually no overhang. I had the bars from my bike mount from a 93 honda civic I had. I got the feet(gutter mounts) off of ebay for like 30-40 shipped. The 300 mount puts the bar 5" from the gutter where it is mounted. You can find the bars on ebay for cheap aswell, or bite the bullet and get the bars and mounts new from a bike shop or another Thule dealer.

Here you go. Skrotetech did the same thing I did. I used the same stuff to brace across the middle to give me a floor again. Yeah, it's a little thicker than the other floor rails but who cares. Here are some finished pics of mine.

50" load bars on a gutter mount? I was looking at picking up some 300's, but I thought 50" was gonna be too short...it seems everyone is looking for 58"....I have an opportunity to get some 50's.....or I could hold out for longer ones....what do you think?

Here is a better pic. These are the 50" bars, very little coming out of the mounts. The caps will fit on the bars and you will have about 1/2 gap between the bar cap and the mount. So the 50" will fit nice like mine.

Lol...oh damn...that sucks. My dad was getting ready to buy one for his XJ. Everytime I go buy his house he gawks over mine for a couple of minutes and he has yet to buy one...too late now.
