Just got the Coleman rack today...

The one in the new pic on the costco site is different then the one I just got. The cross bars have loops at the end. But I would have had to cut them to do the extension like I did. And also if you look at the new pic it wouldnt be possible to put tere extension in any longer.

Apparently, I am not meant to see this because I followed the link like you suggested and it keeps saying: We're sorry, this product is not available. Product number: 11219524

Also, doing a manual search doesn't even show it. Gotta say I am a bit irritated!

Updates, Dark pics. Took them tonight after I put it on. Will have more tomorrow.

i just cant see how they were blowing those out at that price when everone want 200. it wasnt a closeout . from what i get from their site is they might get more in. were not the only fish in the pond i saw other suv forums talking about this rack too. i did see a few with shipping on ebay going for 100. also is there any other rack in this price range out there?

Sure seems like a closeout to me. Mine was shipped directly from Coleman in Wichita, Ks, not from a Costco store or warehouse. I don't know what it cost to ship a big, 33 lb box from KS to PA, but it had to be at least $15-20. Subtract that from the $59.99 price.

I put mine on today and it feels pretty solid. Definitely worth $60, but not $200. Clears the garage door by less than an inch.

I think that coleman had costco move its remaining stock of the old racks, Coleman never changed prices on there site because they just ushered in the newer style rack. Thats what I think. Costco just finally sold out of the old style.

glad to see this thread explode like it has. Well I saw a thread by the Grand guys on Jeepforum so they have been calling and asking as well. So since Coleman has got a lot of interest in it again they will most likely jack the price up. Someone called and a Colemen rep said they had 5 in stock. That was last week.

hey Stroketech, maybe you could add some more factory x-bars under the middle of the basket to add some more support?!

then you could add your spare up there.

Just my $0.02

Well, I took the pics last week when we had a decent weather day, waiting on my extension to get here...(which arrived the next day and is sitting in my kitchen) and the weather has been too bad to get it installed. Freezing rain now....ugh.

anyway, here's a few pics of the rack with my tire mounted using the Yakima tire carrier.

not much room for much of anything other than the tire...but that is why I got it. the extension will be a nice addon!

note the factory 2001 crossbars on the ends and the "96" crossbars in the middle.

view from the front. I have a plastics shop up the street, I'm gonna see if I can get a new air dam made after I get the extension in. One that will extend down to the roof and a couple inches above the rack. You can see the cable lock hanging below the rack.

The Yakima tire carrier fit perfect, no mods needed. You can't really tell from the pic, but the crossbar here is in contact with bottom of the yakima plate . the cable lock goes through two spokes in the tire, through the rack, and around one crossbar.

the view from above. Yes, I know the yakima come with provisions for adding a standard padlock, but I preferred using the cable lock, a little more stout for protection from theft.

From the rear, there is about an inch between back of tire and back of rack...so when I do go to 31" tires (these are 30's) there should be no need to change anything.

another view from the other side.

I'll post comparison pics after getting the extension in. Hopefully this next week.
