Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

hah thats the way these jeeps work, If i put mine up on a jackstand on one side I can hardly open the opposite door.

I never understood how people said stuff like that...

I can be a full flex with one front and one rear tire off the ground and I can still open the doors, and hatch...

:dunno: Maybe that 16gage steel floor I put in helped strengthen it?

Its all about the amount of abuse an XJ gets on-road AND especially off-road.

My XJ was in an accident before I got it, and if I put my fingers in the upper window door jamb, between the window frame and body and went off camber, it would tighten/loosen noticeably. That was before I put a cage in it. After the cage, there was no change. My XJ is starting to loosen up a bit over the years though, thats just what happens when one gets used as hard as mine.

John....
Its unfortunate that you finally tweaked it to the point where its affecting driveability, but as hard as your XJ gets wheeled (with no cage or additional structural rigidity added in) I hate to say it buddy, but it was just a matter of time...

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

note to self: Frame stiffeners, and other re-enforcements before too much more hard wheeling...

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

Yeah I did my rear floors with 12 gauge, it's definitely a lot stiffer than it was before...but what was left of my floors before was being held in by seam sealer, all the spot welds had rusted through. Stiffeners are a good idea too, I'll probably do them in the next year or so

A friend of mines old XJ was so loose that ALL of that seam sealer had cracked/broken off, and the wheel wells and inside metal were separated from the floor in the back.... not pretty.. but the XJ flexed GREAT!!!

I had that exact same 'note to self' moment a couple months ago :laugh3:. That's why I now have the steel to do my stiffeners (and high clearance rockers with tie ins & semi boat-sides) as soon as I have time and get everything else done. Everything else = getting the Jeep safe to drive again and inspected.

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

yeah, once I get the wife's rust hole on the road again, I should be able to free up some time to get mine some beef :-D

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

Come on guys, unibody bending is the new flex. When you hit those sharp break overs just hit the "taco fold" switch & the jeep will never get hung up, like a invertebrae snake!!!

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

ok somebody show me an XJ folded like a taco. everyone says that. especially about the 2drs but ive never seen it. just sayin. :bs:

the XJ taco is the bigfoot of the Jeep world. some people believe it exists, some will insist that it exists, some will say they have seen it themselves, but no one has ever photographed one.

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

doing some work today: disc brake conversion, welding on new swaybar brackets, replacing some LCA and maybe UCA bushings, adjusting caster, welding reinforcement and skids on LCA mounts, cutting open my hood and installing LeBaron vents, installing new-to-me passenger-side fender and doors.

yeah, right... i'm gonna get all that done... sure i am...
