Yikes, interesting... I was thinking a crack from stress, but it looks like rust weakened it, and it just settled/split. Can you punch through it with a center punch or screwdriver? There is someone that makes unibody stiffeners for the rear, but it may be simpler to cut that out and weld in a patch, assuming you can find good metal to weld to...

yeah, my glass is almost completely empty now :looney:

I have the 99 completely torn apart, and then I find this..

I think you are right, I am likey going to need to just cut it out, and replace it with some thicker tube stock, The floor is 12ga steel, I put in a while back so that is something I can connect to, and then I can tie it in to the back, and sides easily enough.

but working on this one wasn't on my to-do list for another 6 months, and even then it was going to be add Atlas, rock rails and long arms, not repair more rust..

oh well... its the way it goes I guess.

Re: NAC Lots-O- Posts Thread-Part Deux

Sleeve it with box tubing.

I cut about a half inch off the top of a piece of 3x6 .25 wall, cut it and bent it to follow the contour of the frame rail, worked great. I did have to rip my shackle box off due to where the rust was worst, but the shackle box was a lost cause anyways, it was badly rusted too.

I've pretty much given up on fixing that jeep fully though, it's getting fixed up enough to wheel it and then getting thrashed till it breaks in half then I'm switching to the 98.
