there's so many things I want to say....but I'll stick with: Good luck and a bit of advice....if you have friends going to college don't ever speak to them again - as soon as they start telling you stories you'll realize the mistake you've made. Like I said though good luck on your journeys.

Have fun with it and do what you got to. You'll come back with more stories than your friends who went to school unlike some other people think. :patriot:

Congratulations, I retired in 2002 after 21 years on active duty as a helicopter mechanic. I traveled the world and had a chance to serve in some great units, 82d 101st 10th Mtn, and met some great people.
Take advantage of the training and educational opportunities, they will help you whether you decide to do four years or make it a career.

Ouch, I guess I'm the only one who regrets joining the military. Although the friends made are the only thing I miss, I wouldn't take back my 5 years. Definately a learning experience. I also noticed most of those that loved it were in a branch other than the Corps.

and btw, i always wanted to join the airforce or marines, but due to some physical problems they wont have me. So what is a guy to do but mock them.

How about standing up and supporting someone’s decision to protect your ass in some way, shape, or form? It takes a lot of courage to knowingly volunteer to protect the constitution from enemies foreign and domestic with the grim reaper always hovering right above your head.

Meh, thats crazy talk. You have to remember, those are the same people that backed people that bombed me and my people. Well same gov. I dont pass judgment on any one indvidual.

but hey, someone has to serve and it cant be me. So thanks.

Why not? I personally respect his point of view as his own idea... Why conform to everyone else and be unoriginal? ;)

That and most former soldiers that ya talk to seem to be either Airborn or Special Forces.

I would have been Airborne or Special Forces, but I had a medical condition.....

All the "people" and "friends" that had stories to tell me about not joining the Army were just because their pansy asses didn't have the courage to fight for what they have been given by this country and our forefathers. Don't turn this into politics on me, but just like most of the others have said- most of the kids from my town turned to drugs, mom, dad, and campus parties and forgot that they needed to prepare to take care of themselves and maybe even a family someday. You will learn discipline, teamwork, critical thinking, among many other traits that college will not teach you. Good luck and remember why you enlisted!

Apparently this is the place to recruit people to send these guys hate mail like I do.

These are the first people I've ever TRULY wished dead.

I agree with you Phil Ramsey has every right to say what he feels.

Indeed, we thank ourselves. ;) My previous statement to 53guy was from one vet to another. :D

Yeah, I know, I just can't get off my darn :soapbox: I can't stand northern VA for the mix of liberal schools.....I'd hate to move to California, I think I'd shoot people. Sorry if I stepped on anyones toes.

Shit brother...I live in the Seattle area. ;) Working nights in Downtown Seattle and talking to everyone because you're bored will eventually open your eyes to different ways of thinking. Either that or your head will explode. :D

I felt the same way when I was at Ft. Myer. Don't be sorry, you have the right to your opinion too. JIM.

Most of the Special Forces guys I knew, were marathon types. The training tempo and often the operations tempo, will tear ya down. Not many guys can keep up the pace there entire carriers. Many get injured in training.
But then you have define Special Forces, Scouts? Division Scouts? Rangers? Armored Cav. Air Cav. even combat engineers. And others. The guys out at the pointy end of the spear.

Congrats, I was a 63G10, or F&E mechanic for track and wheeled vehicles. I't a good MOS. Make the best of it and have a good time doing it or it will be the longest years of your life. I have no regrets about the 8 years I spent in the service. I am actually thinking about going back in.

Only wanted to join the air force to be a pilot. Yall make it seem like I hate the soldiers and am one of those stupid protesting wackos, that is not the case at all. Just dont agree with what our leaders are doing with the armed forces, nothing against the forces themselves.

Army is always looking for pilots, just not fast mover pilots :D
