Sigh.... ok I suppose I'll make one of these since it seems that's what we're doing.
I'm Jim, I'm the "popular" guy you keep hearing about apparently who you shouldn't vote for. I bought my XJ back in January of 2008. I bought it with the intentions of throwing a small lift on it and using it as a reliable daily driver while I turned my street car into a not so street car. In the process I met some amazing people here on
. I was quickly welcomed with open arms by NUMEROUS members here who encouraged me to go on my very first trail run to see what it was all about. I modded my Jeep the first time that day, by taking my sway bars off. I never looked back!
I then was invited to a members house for a "wrench party" that I'd never heard of before. During that wrench party I met a bunch of random people who had no idea who I was, but still showed up to help me, some random guy who knew nothing about his Jeep. Mind you this lift party was to install a lift that I paid NOTHING for. Multiple members gave me free parts, and even went as far as to bring them directly to me to get them on time. This was awesome, I was SO pumped on
at this point. I met awesome people and was on track to build an awesome rig. Over the course of a year my jeep went from stock to VERY well built, all thanks to folks at
.
I ended up with a Jeep that I fell in love with, loved to go fast with, and sunk all my time and money into. My street car turned non-existent to me. I was in fact SO passionate about going fast in my Jeep that I fought long and hard to get a "Jeepspeed/Prerunner" section added to
. A few months later we now have a Jeepspeed/Prerunner section. People need to understand I'm very passionate about certain things. I would not take on a project like this if I were not prepared to commit to it, so worry not about that.
Now, I'm going to address a few things. I see people talking about raising money, organizing more runs, having more wrench parties, etc. That's awesome, and if either of the two other candidates are elected president, I'm sure we'll have a successful year. But to dig a little deeper on that subject, let's talk about the stuff nobody wants to talk about. Let's talk about the mass number of members who have left
in the last year, the GOOD people of
who are no longer around. People talk about the "old"
and the "new"
. My old
is the people I met who broke their backs to help me, the people who have since come and gone, the people who went out of their way to show what a CLUB should be about. Not just raising money or planning for one event a year.
That's what I want back, and that's what I plan on working on most. Love it or hate it that's my goal.
I also want to address moderation in the SoCal chapter, because while all these wheeling trips are fun and bringing money into the chapter seems like it'll solve a bunch of problems, let's face it... 90% of our time together is here... on the forums.
Moderation has been a big issue in the past, it's either been over-moderated or under-moderated. There was a recent question asked about tech threads and where they will go. We need to buck up, make a plan, and stick to it. Socal related tech threads stay here, all else go to the mod tech forum. Questions about smog, setups for certain terrain, etc all stay. Build threads will stay, because most here don't care what someone from Tennessee has to say about their Jeep. If they did, they would post it in mod tech or picture showcase. Instead of having blanket rules we need moderators that will actually delegate, not overmoderate then UNDER moderate because people complained. You need to find a happy medium.
I guess that'll wrap me up for now, this seems long winded enough. ANY and all questions about me should be asked here, I'll do my best to answer them in a timely matter.
