Jeepspeed Rear Leafs

Deffinetly want information on that cage, is there a internal cage that turns into a exo for the a pillars & rack?
Yeah the cage passes through the roof for the pillar bars and crossbracing, the cross bars run across the roof and are triangulated, it ties into a shock hoop setup in the back cargo area as well

i can post pics if you'd like, otherwise i wont flood the thread

Diesel,

Im guessing we would need a long shackle similar to what is used on the rangers?? Which would be cutting into the floor board? and/or building a drop/extended shackle mount to lower/extend the mount? wish I had cash so I could work it out!!

I know you don't want to let out your secrets!!!

Personally, I would love to totally redo the frame side of the shackle so that I could invert the shackle. I've seen some kits that would eliminate a lot of the fab work. Then I could run whatever length shackle I needed to get ride height and shackle angle to be whatever I needed them to be.

i dont get why you would have to redo mount for the shackle? and where have you seen these kits cuz i cant find anything.

Okay I'm both answering the question above and bumping this thead because I have a shackle question and I hate starting new threads.

First, no you can't just mount your leaf pack under the axle. Even though we knew it wouldn't work, we tried it on a Ranger with Deavers (we had some time, don't ask). You end up lowering the truck about 8" and your shackle angle (basically the entire rear geometry) is way off.

Okay my question: What is the most ideal shackle set up for go-fast on an XJ? Assuming I have Deavers, how long of a shackle are JeepSpeeds running and how long if you don't have to conform to Jeepspeed rules?

My plan is to run the HD off-road engineering shackle re-location brackets. So the last piece of the puzzle is the shacke itself. I alreay have 1.5" extended shackles, but they seem short compared to most traditional truck shackes I have run in the desert.

My concern is drivetrain issues with too long of a shackle. I'd rather not R&D something that may be already known.

Am I worried about something for no reason? Am I going to get say 14" of travel with deavers and my shackles, and maybe 1" more if I make big changes? I don't split hairs over an inch of travel, I just valve my shocks a few extra times :)

most of the KOH XJ guys are running deavers, 1.5" shackles, and the shackle boxes. i'm running that, minus the shackle boxes, and my rear end is about an inch or so lower than the front, so i'll be adding them soon. i'm (going to be) strapped at 12" in the rear.

How much lift would you have gotten from the Deavers in SOA application?

Well none. When you add deavers to a Ranger, you also flip the shackle so the net lift is almost none.

If we just bolted the deavers in place of the stock leafs and left the shackle pointed down (like an XJ) I've heard the lift is about 4".

It's simple really, you are moving your main leaf from 3" above the axle tube, to under it. Thats 3" of the spring back height, plus the axle tube diameter....about 6" right there. Then you also don't have a long enough main spring to get you the shackle angle you want. It was fun driving it around the block though.

Pahl! Good to see you over here man! I'm just now reading your PM, so I'll answer you here instead.

Short answer, there is no good shackle for the Deavers. In my experience the Deavers are too long for any off the shelf shackle sold. I figured out I needed about a 7" eye to eye shackle (roughly) to allow the springs to flatten out on mine.

I'm not a fan of shackle boxes, as it adds unnecessary height. If you've got the means of making a custom shackle, go for that route instead, if not then run the shackles you have now for the time being, it won't hurt however it will put more stress on the spring, and give you some funky rebound under full stuff.

Sounds like I'll have some decisions to make. Deavers are my next big purchase but I have to do something about the horrible shackle angle now. I'm on RE rear springs plus a lift block (that I am dying to get rid of) to fit my 35" BFG's. I may need the height from the box when I get deavers. If not, I'll make new shackles and sell the boxes! Truth is I do more rocks than desert right now anyway.

What travel numbers can be achieved? Is 12" the standar with Deavers? That makes me sad haha.

Unless you go spring under, 12-13" is pretty much the furthest you can stretch it. It is indeed a bummer, but for having 12-13" of travel, they work well.

With a long shackle, I've seen 14-15".

Ok, here is my 2 cents contribution to XJ rear leafs. My 97 XJ was used as chase veheeicle at the last NORRA Mexican 1000, pretty much 100% stock Cherokee. It made the trip, but the 31" General Tire Grabbers tore the inner liner in the rear wells, because the stock leafs were so soft that went past the straight line. The back of the XJ was loaded with a lot of spare parts, tool box, ice chest (beer), a portable winch and other things. Fast forward to August: at the Vegas to Reno contingency, I met a Jeepspeed fellow, Barry. He sold me a pair of Deavers that had been raced already. Not good enough to race but great for pre-running and chasing. I got a pair of JKS shackles,JKSOG5651, from 4WheelParts, and everything worked just perfect. I added a pair of Skyjacker shocks (2" longer), got a set of front coils from a V8 ZJ and a big alternator and my XJ was ready to go back to Baja. My pit assignment for the Baja 1000 (Score) was mile 715, San Juanico. I had to get on the race course for almost 85 miles after San Ignacio, and carrying the same or more amount of stuff in the back, including a newly mounted spare tire in the rear bumper and I did not have any issues with my reborn XJ. In other words: raced Deavers work great for a chase XJ.
