Its coming...

Well, I don't think the rain was as big of an issue as the storm surge was. That's why the southeast side of town was so devastated. We actually got more rainfall in the past couple of days in Chicago than Houston did, but we didn't have 13 feet of the gulf coming at us. Anyway, hope everything goes well for everyone here.

We had a willow tree take a 45 degree slant to the fence. We never lost power, but the Internet was down for 28 hours!!!! Oh the humanity! It's been back up for an hour I think.

The place where I work is trashed, so looks like I'll be working from home for the next week or so. :(

Heading back to Houston in a few minutes. Found a list of stores (below) that are already open down there. Looks like some recovery is well under way now! :sunshine: Yesterday all I was hearing were stories of long lines at a few places with power for groceries and gasoline.

BigDaddyChia, just got back on line and saw your message. Probably too late now to meet, but thanks for the offer.

Spoke with Midian again this morning. He's still without net and using a generator for power. From the sounds of it, with the exception of a neighbor's tree taking down part of his backyard fence he didn't have it too bad.

He said that some of the stores are opening for a few hours, but they smell horrible due to the lack of power to run the refrigeration units.

Other than that it seems that his area is ok with the exception of a bunch of downed trees. He said he was out playing in his XJ, dragging small trees off the roads. Sounds like a good time. :P

Oh, and Mudderoy, that's why I have net on my phone. If the towers are still functioning I am online...LOL!

I have been gettin spotty info, not as bad as it was supposed to be, however if you're the one dealin with it not that bad still sucks. Hope ya'll are all doin as well as can be expected. I'm sendin a generator, a stack of bar b q and a couple bottles of whiskey to aid in the recovery. Remember whiskey, it's not just a drink, it's an antiseptic.

out of it all I am still amazed by some people. My in laws in Conroe have a neighbor, a "school cop" (guess the salary). He showed up with two generators, and gave my father in law one, refused to accept payment. My father came home (apartment) to find a lady sweeping and cleaning out the area in front of his unit. He told her she didn't have to do it. She replied, I know, that's why I'm doin it, if we all do a little we'll be done in no time. He asked what he could do for her, she wanted a glass of ice water. The human spirit is an amazing thing. After having my tires cut the other night, I had been on quite the anti human bend. Things like this seem to put it all back in perspective. To all ya'll in the mess, Keep your head up, keep laughing, and remember, the kids are watching and learning. We aren't born a-holes, we're taught to be. Love ya'll

I went to Sam's Club yesterday afternoon. It was horrible!

There was no milk, bread, or hamburger meat. Lots of eggs, and everything else. It was about as crowded as it is on a weekday afternoon.

After leaving the store I drove to their gas pumps.

It was horrible!

I normally pull up to the front pump, but it was SO busy I had to use the back pump. Thank God I remembered how to turn the steering wheel to get around the people in front of me.

Did I mention it was horrible?

So, what you're saying is that all-in-all it was a pleasant experience??

It ain't normal, but it's damned close.

Keep in mind though that we never lost power, little or no damage, etc...

I am hearing that other parts didn't fair as well. I know what they are saying on the News, but it is their business to make things interesting, so I don't trust them.

My Aunt was just describing a totally different experience just SE of Houston so even though we were very close to the eye of the hurricane when the stuff rotated to our side of town (West) it wasn't that bad.

I think that Midian said that he was at the edge of the eye. Me, I was sitting at my house all safe in scenic Denton drinkin' beer in Midian and Magimerlin's honor.....hey, at least I was thinkin' of you guys!

I heard about the gas stations running outta fuel. My question was how in the Heck are they pumping gas with no electricity to run the pumps?

Hookers :D

Ok the lack of electricity in Houston is getting pretty serious.

I just saw this on the local Fox station...

Centerpoint is the company that does all the electricity repairs.

speakin of merlin has anyone heard from him? Remember I'm always late. I emailed him, no reply. My brother in law was told look for power around October. (near Porter)

yeah, but you are in katy. I'm maybe 10miles from you and I currently have a power line laying across my back yard from when they tried to energize the system yesterday. The line and the tree went :flame:

The only thing I'm worried about is that I am low on beer
