Issues with the neighbors kid....

Just out of curiousity the vehicle in question wouldn't happen to be either a 3rd gen camaro or a 94-98 mustang with a v8 and chrome everything?
 
If you stand in the street make sure you're not close to the corner. Common sense but anyway.

If you have a car you don't care too much about and you park it by the corner, paying for the fix will make him stop. Thats what my neighbor did and made my whole senior year suck
 
Get a flat bed trailer. Park it just around the corner so he can't see it. Put the ramp down and wait. Oh yeah, video too. Post it here.
 
Jim's solution works but we went one step further. We had a kid driving around our blind corner when I was younger. Even with my brothers police car in the yard he did it. My brother finally gave him and his parents a good talkin to. Didn't help so we rigged up a large sort of life like doll on a little plastic trike. Then hooked it to some fishing line and waited for the bastard to come around the corner. Well he murdered the doll, got another much more serious talkin to from my brother and went home in tears. Not only did it slow him down but he actually found another route into the neighborhood.
 
I've got a similar, though not life-threatening situation (I hope). I snowplow the driveway for two divorced women that live next to me. Two houses, one long drive. Between them (they are sisters) there are two teenage boys and five teenage girls. Since the last husband left they haven't been able to keep the driveway repaired in the summer (it's mostly sand) and the huge ruts are giving my old truck a serious beating. For the last 10 years I've charged them $30 to do both drives. A commercial snowplow would charge them at least $50 apeice. I told them that I'd have to raise it to $40 this year. Two days later my truck has a cracked windshield with a rock on the hood. It's not parked close to any road or where it could have been an accident, but it is within throwing distance of their driveway.

If I had my way I'd catch them in the act and set an example, but..
My wife doesn't want me to say anything because she works from home. When we have to be scared of kids something is seriously wrong with our society.

That should be an easy fix. Stop cleaning their driveway all together and wait for them to ask why. Then you tell em that issue with the windshield and before this is taken care of not to expect anymore help from you.

My thoughts too, and my likely solution. It just hasn't snowed yet. :)

Haha I was thinking this too. Ofcourse the parents could just not care also. My brother had neighbors who would pretend to not understand English when he tried to be friendly & say hi, but then he heard them speaking it later when he was taking something to the trash & they had their window open (Buena Park - houses are way too close together!). Friend of mine works for the utilities & has people pull that sh!t with him too because they think it'll get them out of trouble.

Anyways - the ball trick works real well! Buddy did the same thing when he was living in the base housing @ Pendleton. Guy quit doing it. If the parents just don't have respect for the neighborhood then talking to them won't do you any good. I'd say call the cops, if that's a no go then the ball trick followed up by a stern talkin to.
 
Write a letter and have it translated into Spanish. Then type it up and make sure you explain your frusturation, the saftely issue and kids at risk, and the fact that your ready to get the cops involved. Leave it on their door. Don't sign it other then "Concerned neighbor". The parents might not give a crap about their kids driving, BUT if they only speak spanish then there is a really good chance they are illegal and the thought of cops getting involved will make them care REAL quick.

Hopefully it will slow him down for a while so I can have my wide start watching him. If he starts up again I'll call the cops right away AND toss a ball in the street if I get lucky enough.

Just out of curiousity have any of your other neighbors noticed this kids behavior? Do you think that they would be willing to help you out? One person can be taken as that neighbor that just wants to nag. If you were able to get a couple of other neighbors with you, you might be able to make them understand a little better. Just a thought.
 
If you video tape him blowing the stopsign and take the video to your local police they can cite him for it. Make sure you get his face clearly and his license plate. It is just like a traffic camera but one that follows the car to make sure it captures his face and license plate. You may be asked to sign a complaint against him. Do it, it is the only way this kid is likely to learn. As always it is best to see what you can accomplish by talking to him first. Be polite and express your concerns. If he gets attitude with you then film him and let the police put his attitude in check. His behavior could be misdemeanor reckless driving, that would put the pinch on his pocketbook big time.
