Is it worth it?

I have an np242 in my 90jeep right now. But over the next year I want to build it up to be running dana44s locked and 35" tires. So I figuere with the amount of lift I want I will need an sye/cv shaft. I want to know would it be worth it for the extra strength to swap my 242 with a 231 and get the HD sye instead of doing the hack and tap on the 242. Of course in the end it all boils down to how much money I make

I wouldn't waste the time/money on swapping to a 231.

The 242 is fine as long as you have the matching gears in the axles for the installed tires. This removes the stress from the drivelines into the axles and keeps yout tranny, t-case and driveshaft u-joints happy.
