Is anyone here STILL a Metallica fan?

I saw an interesting thing on another web site just now. It all turned out to be a big hoax. Something about Metallica bringing up a lawsuit against an up and coming band for using two guitar chords back to back and stating it was a "Metallica-created" chord combination and was viewed as copyright infringement. Again, this was only a ruse, a hoax, a joke. But it does show the growing disdain for the band and what they have turned themselves into.

That said, anyone here still care for their music? I thought "Load" was a big departure (in the wrong direction) from their previous releases, and the same with "Reload". "Garage, Inc." was also a let-down,being that it was simply "Garage Days Re-Revisted" remastered with another cd with more covers:( I didn't even bother listening to the one they did with whatever orchestra that was. This new "hard-core" Metallica album out ,"St. Anger",is supposed to be their "return to basics", heavy metal, kick-ass album, but I don't want to go out and waste another $16 to be disappointed yet again. Who out there has bought it,and more importantly, what is your honest opinion of it?

The last GREAT album (this is all just my opinion,BTW) I bought from them was "Live Sh*t-Binge and Purge" An all-out,no-holds barred live metal box set with all of their greatest stuff on it. It had 3 CD's and 3 videos and it was well worth the price paid for it. I went to see the concert and loved every minute of it (I was almost deaf when we left and still had permagrin anyway).

A lot of folks out there say when Cliff Burton passed on,the real Metallica died with him. While I can say I did like the band then,I also liked Jason Newstead, too. He seemed to bring an energy to the band that they were missing before. Anyway, now that he's gone,I seriously doubt the band will be taken seriously anymore. Kind of like Van Halen going through singers, and Motley Crue going through drummers.

Anyway, enough of my rambling:rolleyes: Check out this funny site regarding Metallica, and rock on (to whoever)!!:anon:

Still? Never was a fan. :D

Only thing I heard about their latest release is that the production totally sucked!

I guess everyone else still listens to Liberace.

I admit, I haven't bought a Metallica album since Load.
Load was a load....of Crap.

I remember anxiously awaiting the Black album, I was in Germany at the time, and went down to the record store every day to see if it was in. I actually loved the album.

Load was a big disappointment to me. I really thought they were off their rocker with that dumbass symphony medley. I figured that they were just trying to make more money.

IMO, their prime has long passed, and they're becoming the Rolling Stones of the heavy metal circuit.

All this typed while listening to Master of puppets and St. Anger (downloaded) on the 'puter....you outta hear the difference!

Not I. I like their earlier stuff, Black wasn't as strong as Justice, but I still liked it..and Load, well, I was very, very dissapointed in that!

They're over with..they've sold out..any band who screams about MP3 as much as they do and lets their CD's sell for $18 while claiming to be the good guys the used to be is a sell out (remeber Garage Days Re-Re? Well that was cheap, it was supposed to be cheap, now it's also on the $18 bin and it's an EP! Im ean, c'mon, not even a full album!)

Off my box...

Metallica Mike? Where's that Mullet? LOL!

I still am. For whatever reason, on St. Anger they purposely left out all guitar solos, and that steel drum sound that Lars has is supposed to be done on purpose. So yes, the production is inexcusable. Just horrible.

That said, I think Frantic rocks like any other, some songs on the new one are horrible, some get it done. They will sound good live and I am still a fan, though not as much as i used to.

They need to fire Bob Rock.

hmmmm it depends on what you classify as a fan... I love their early stuff! I like some of their newer things (Metalica 'n symphonica is really cool IMHO but then again it mostly has their older stuff in it).....

In regards to what bands do and how they behave? well.. to each his own.... I think there is a lot of BS going on in the industry. So my approach is simple: listen to music, don't buy commercial cd's (come on. the artists aren't actually making money of the CD sales, but the labels are) and don't pay attention to what the idiots are doing for their 15 minutes of fame...

P.S. On the note of funny press releases in music... have you heard about britney announcing publically that she's no longer a virgin LOL..... Anyways....

my brother is a "new metallica" fan, I am an "old metallica" listener.

I borrowed St. Anger from him. didn't even get past the first track. it's f*cking garbage

I like this thread. I am/was a fan I love their old stuff and there were a few good tunes on load and reload and i realy like the S&M cd since i also like classical music. "No leaf clover and human ' witch were unreleased tracks were great on that cd. But i went and got there newest disapointment because its suposed to get back to the basics and I listen all the way though it once and that was it I'm not even sure where it is now.I agree with out jason they deffinatly have lost thier touch and with all the Napster BS i realy lost respect for them. the best studio work is master it is just down right incredible. Back during the when they were on the road for the load album I saw them and it was the second time the balck being the first and i was very disapointed in the show and I drove 4 hours to see the damn thing. A week prior I saw garth brooks and his show put metalicas to shame.
There are some great bands out now that have me hooked like SUM-41 they realy rock and have guitar work that just make a metal head like me smile. # doors down is pretty good aswell just not as hard. Its great to have good music on the radio again for awhile in the 90s and early 00s there wasn't awhole lot of good stuffbut thank god record lables got the idea.

Sounds like you're a 993-WYSK listener. I'll be filling in for Tre from 3-7 this afternoon. Give me a call if you're listening.

hey Tom i just missed you show but I did have ity on untill about midnight when i finaly got my truck runing again. I remember you saying you were a DJ but I never would have guess you being on 99.3. Hey any chance I could request a song LOL. I'd love to sit in the studio sometime maybe we can work a deal I have some parts to get rid of :). catch ya later.

You girls need to clean the sand out of your clams, you're becoming soft and whiney.
Yeah, I don't like every song of theirs', but they don't write albums on my behalf, so I don't freakin' cry about it. If you don't like it, shut up and listen to your Yanni album.

I'm not becoming "soft and whiney",THEY are. I'm just sick of paying my dough for a CD with 1,maybe 2 decent songs on it and the rest of it being crap that should've been left on the editing floor. I didn't buy their newest CD basically because I felt taken by their last few "efforts" that I was actually inclined to purchase. I simply wanted to know if anyone else felt the same way,and what anyone's opinion on the new CD was before I went out and bought it. Sorry dude,I didn't mean to offend the president of the "Official Metallica fan club" :looser: But do us a favor, lose the attitude,as you're the first one to pop up with a negative one.

i have always been a fan.. Justice was an excellent album, and tour i saw them at the norfolk scope with queensryche.. small place considering how big they are now... black was good as well.. load had a few good tracks but theyir track record is starting to suck.... this latest one i have no interest in at all... i think ST anger would have been great if it was produced on the black album... too much hype leading up to this newest one and too much whining coming out of lars.... how many of you all downloaded the "napster bad!" cartoon from JOECARTOON.com ?? i think i still have it somewhere.. they are huge and will be for quite a while.... i dont dislike them, just think they can do better..
time to get out my master of puppets cd for the ride to work tommorow...
mike

Black was there last good album. "Unforgiven" is sort of a workman's anthem...okay, a bitter, angry, working man's anthem. Although, I must confess, the black CD got yanked in favor of King's X on the way in to work this morning! :guitar:

OK,I got a friend of mine at work to let me borrow his copy of "St. Anger". He's been a long-time fan of them, too. He said, and I quote "I thought it was gonna be better,it was almost like a guarantee there would be a couple of kick-ass songs on it. The whole thing sucks, though!" Boy,was he right on about that one. The only song that had promise was "Shoot Me Again" until they had that ridiculous "speed metal" part thrown in for no apparent reason. The song was really rockin' until then. Once again,I hit the "track forward" button. It's almost like an amature band playing on their first real album.

I do,however, feel like the over-tone of the snare drum ruined a lot of it for me. It just didn't feel as powerful with that going on. Nothing like the Black album that had tremendous bass drums and perfectly recorded guitar tracks, and unlike "Justice",which sounded utterly awful if you really cranked it up on the stereo, but the double bass drums Lars used just kicked serious ass!!. The guitars on that album would just drone through the speakers and ruin it all, for me anyway. But,non the less,"Justice" is still my favorite album from them, and the way it's looking,it always will be. I guess we can always hope for a "Remastered" version of that one to come out-yeah right!

That's my commentary, and I'm sticking to it. :moon:

P.S.-I will be making a copy of it anyway. I'll feel at least a LITTLE bit better knowing that I finally got one of their latest CD's for what it was worth
