Is 33s on 27 spline 8.25 safe?

I'm looking for a 27 spline cherokee. I was just worried about axle shaft breakage and the 32s or 33s I'm gonna put on it. I would get a 97-up cherokee with 29 spline but i need a older cherokee so I can afford it. Like 91-95.

You don't have the Jeep yet? I know where there's a 2001 model that needs a head gasket for 1,000 bucks in TN.

At this point I'm just looking for the cheapest cherokee with a Chrysler 8.25 doesn't matter what spline and on with the hp dana 30 and 4.0. I'll run 33s on the 27 with open and 33s on the 29 locked. If this is a good setup comment. Thanks for the help y'all I'm going cherokee hunting.

Just buy a Jeep, put some tires on it and drive it. That's what's easiest.

Don't even look at what axle it has. Any axle that comes factory in any Cherokee will hold up to 32's just fine for the type of wheeling I think you'll be doing in it.

Giant waste of money.

A 29 spline 8.25 swap or 8.8 swap will cost less than polishing a turdy5. Never put money in one of those axles...

All you need for an 8.25 swap is a driveshaft from a 91-95 with the same engine/trans as yours, 4x4, with an 8.25 rear, and a set of 3" ubolts. Aside from the axle, of course.

I can do an 8.25 swap on a jeep I buy for under $200 even if I have to buy leaf perches and weld them on (for example, putting one in an MJ.) There is literally no reason to ever upgrade a d35, even if you are regearing, it's better to get an 8.25 and regear that, then install it than it is to do anything to the d35.

d35s are worth $200 a ton at the scrapyard. That is IT.

To give you an idea I have bought a matching set of axles. A HP dana 30 and 8.25 29 spline for $200 for the pair. To buy upgraded axle shafts alone you are looking at more then that. Just pick up a jeep with a good shell/drive train. If it has the 8.25 27 or 29 just wheel it. I would just avoid a jeep with ABS, i don't liek it/dealing wiht it. If it has a 35 wheel it while you look for a good 8.25 29 spline cheap. Funny thing about jeeps there is always someone going bigger and getting rid of their smaller stuff lol ALso if you find a cheaper 29 spline you can build it while the other axle is being used and not be rushed. It is also pretty easy to do a disk brake set up on an 8.25

I would have sworn that this gentleman had an XJ with a blown rear diff and looking for replacement options.

My friend, go out and buy yourself an XJ and drive it until it quits or you want to upgrade in order to be more capable offroad which ever occurs first.
