IPF H4 vs. Hella H4?

If I get the XJ this weekend, the first thing I want to do is upgrade the lights. Which would you guys use and why?

IPF H4
Hella E-Code
Hella Vision Plus

Some guys say the Vision Plus isn't much better than sealed beams...why? Has anyone out there gotten in trouble for using E-Codes (inspection or otherswise)?

It's Hella e-codes for me.

They spread the light out evenly infront of your vehicle, yet keep it out of the oncomming driver's eyes.

Use good H4 bulbs like PIAA's, Silver Stars, or even Cool Blues, not some crap no-name brand blue bulb.

NOTE: If your state still has vehicle inspections and the examiner is anal, he/she could fail you on not having DOT approved lights.

AND: A good set of driving and/or fog lights is always a good idea.

Good luck!!!

I have the IPF Majic. Love them, the are cut off at the top to keep them out of the other drivers eyes and have more light toward the right side so see stuff that may come your way. Am looking to upgrade them to the IPF Fatboy Xeons, though.

Check your area, Hella's are more available here then IPF's, the nearest IPF dealer to me is close to 55mi away in NJ. Hella stuff the local autoparts store carries or can get for me in a day, saves me the drive. As for bulbs, go with the xenon H4 55/65's to start, before going to bigger wattage do the harness upgrade to take better advantage of the higher output. Make sure they are adjusted correctly. I use a building wall, some chalk line and a tape measure. I have never had a problem with inspection, not with all the myriad of different factory lights out there.

Rich,
What is your method, specifically, for alignment?
Is is for any car or just a Jeep?

I pick a nice level parking lot with a big sidewall. Park about 25ft away and shine on the wall, thenmeasure the distance from my Hella's center line horizontal cutoff and transfer that measurement to the wall with the chalk line, then I adjust my low beams about 1-2 inches under that line. That way I won't offend anyone. When I do the fogs I just put them well under the low beams...

I have the Vision Plus and they are a lot better than stock, a sharp cut off angled to the right. also have Hella Micro DE fog lights, the pattern is better than both Hella 500 & 550 fog light.

I'll probably go with Hellas too, just because I've used their stuff before and it's pretty nice stuff. I just can't decide between the E-Codes and the Vision Plus lights.

doas anyone know about the PILOT H4 conversion lense? WL-HL5A?

I currently have the Sylvania Xenarc HID's, but am thoroughly un-impressed with the beam pattern they create. I am going to keep the ballasts but convert to using a H4 conversion lense and an H4 HID bulb, but am trying to find a good lense because stray light from the HID's is a bit more of a PITA than normal lighting...

If it is between the E codes and Vision plus, go with the E codes, better pattern than the VP's. I have seen them, guy down the street has the VP's in his 00
