if anyone is in the market for a new 1/2" impact, these are awsome. i just picked one up last weekend (sears sale) and i am very happy with it. all the reviews were excellent so i went for it. surprisingly smooth and powerful. i didnt get the quiet version since i dont use every day all day, but this one is still pretty quiet. well worth the money in my opinion.

How much? I went with the IR thunder gun over the Timax, they were close enough in specs and saved a little money and got some cool factor. I didn't think they made a loud/quiet version. I thought the Timax line was all quiet.

One of my techs has it at the shop. Fantastic gun, the lightweight really makes a difference hauling it around all day.

I have the regular, and the quiet. Not much of a difference between the two sound wise.

last weekend it was on sale for $236. not sure what they are now, but normally around $280+. the quiet version was almost another $100 and i had no need for it. but it sounds like it is not much different. the gun feels extremely smooth, and the light weight fools you as it is a power house for sure. i may actually try and take good care of this one.

This is the gun that I use when I want to break something (i.e. stubborn lug nut). Just squeeze the trigger for ~5-8 seconds and you've got yourself a 2-piece stud. I love it.

I have the Matco version of this gun, I bought it a few years ago. Was only like 230$ish. It also has a place to lube the shaft with a grease gun. Helps prolong the life. Basically the same gun otherwise. Definitely worth the $$.

Amazon usually has them for like $245 normal price if I remember. Not as cheap but if someone misses the sale...

Dads day sale at Sears 2007-- got the 2135Timax. Been beating the tar outta it ever since without issue. It easily outperforms any of the other retail guns I've used and I've been known to drive home to get it when others don't do the trick.

edit-- mighta been 2008-- I'm old and don't remember very well anymore

i will be checking out the sears fathers day sale this year too. my lincoln auto darkening welding helmet finally took a dive. but i got over 10 years out of it. and i think the technology has gotten alot better. so it is time for a new one. i hope i am as pleased with what i get as i am with this impact gun.

This gun is win. I'm an auto tech by trade and gotta say, the IR design is used by Matco and Mac for their guns for a reason. Whether it's axle nuts, crank pully bolts or as mentioned siezed lug nuts, this thing is a jack hammer. I've had mine for 4 or 5 years now using it every day without problems. Still works like new! I'm expecting it to last another 5 to 10 years since I oil and grease the thing regularly with the maint. kit.

I've had this gun (in the quiet flavor) for about 3 years now, use it all day everyday. It's definitely lost a little of it's power, but I've only ever had trouble with 2 crank pulley bolts. And those required 3' breaker bars to remove so I wasn't too disappointed. Other than that it's never let me down.

As for the quiet vs the normal, Jeepman you're crazy. I had to use a buddy's normal version for a day cuz I left man at home, and my ears hurt at the end of the day. There is HUGE difference between the two sounds.

I got the 2131QT back in '08 (I'm also a tech by trade) and I love this thing. Very quiet and it's quite strong.

I just got this one over the weekend for my birfday. Haven't had a chance to run it. The supplied hogue grip was cool but it was split down the back when i opened the box.
