V10 and as little rust as you can. Swap out the leafs for different ones, f350s i think, will help the ride a wallowinf then can tend to have with the 'softer' springs.

Ben I had a 2001 Expedition Eddie Bauer. It was plush as a DD and towed decent. Put a $80 set of airbags in the rear coils and it will tow a lot better. A set of new plugs really woke it up too. Only downside is that it's a Ford.

Oh, I had to have the exhaust manifold studs done like all Triton engines.

This would mostly be used for Suzi to dd everyday. Not really scared about the manifolds as I've already done it on our excursion. Just didn't know if there was anything else I should look out for on them.

They use the 4r100 trans like everything else. Keep it cool and you can keep it alive a little longer.
Not all of them. The 4r100 comes in the tow package. The 4rw70 is the stocker with 4.6. Mine has the HD towing package. Plug in brake controller, the 4r100, a Sterling 9.25 limited slip rear end. With front and rear a/c and heat. You can make it hotter than Hades or polar ice cap cold in it. The rear control arms are the same lousy design as XJs and rust out big time. I haven't had to do the exhaust studs, but they may have been done before I bought mine. Seat heaters are awfully nice on winter days.

Right now I'm looking into the expedition, Tahoe, or Yukon. Want something 3rd but don't need something as big as the ex. Course I have looked at a couple on Craigslist tonight. Wife said she wants something that atleast gets 12mpg sitting in the driveway.

My family has an 05 King Ranch edition. Gets about 14MPG with the 5.4. Timing chain tensioner i think is shot at 100k, but mom says its the best car shes ever had. I might use it to tow the XJ to winterfest next year

I've been super happy with my Tahoe. The 5.3 is a great motor, it's got 190,000 miles and I just put a transmission in it. The only other repairs I've had with this is a couple starters, which are known to be bad, and I just put an alternator in it.

Weight distribution hitch, and the thing tows great. It's no powerhouse, but it does the job.

Ill voice in for another Tahoe guy. We have had multiple tahoes dating back to 2003. I have ran most all of them to 175k or more and honestly never had a problem. The 5.3 is great, and the 6.2 in the denali was sweet, but that typical cold start valve clatter was bad on the 6.2. I towed my xj all over the state's with our 03 z71 and it was plush. Plenty to power n way better creature comforts than an Expedition. I got around 17mpg iirc and about 10mpg towing. This new ppv tahoe I just picked up averaged 20mpg on its first full tank, but it's 2wd.

Im leaning more towards the gm based SUV's cuz they do ride nice and have plenty of power but trying to find someone to trade for an xj is like a needle in a hay stack. Expeditions normally don't carry a high price tag so that's why I'm looking into them. Would keep the jeep but not really gonna be the best option with 3 kids.

Thanks all for the insight. Looks like gm is gonna be one I'm looking at but will also look into the expeditions.

You already make the deal with the first guy? If so that's a deal to me. If it is Two strangers, no word given. it's first come first serve.
