Offer is in...not as much as I would have liked but not terrible by any means. What are the odds of them doing any additional negotiating considering its a government job?

Somewhere between slim and none, and seeing how you're a white male, be glad that you got the job at all nowadays. The government's hiring tactics are just simply bullshit now.

Federal, state or local?

You might have some room with a local government. Those positions are hired and fired by a local government.

Federal and state governments have pay scales based on the requirements of the job and steps within the rate to give people incentives for experience. Like Tyler said, there's zero room to move within that type of offer.

They know that if you don't, someone else will. And quickly.

At the Iowa Cubs game, cant focus on the game already half drunk. Chugged 2 craft beers in the first 20 mins. Old ladys mad cause she cant be drunk due to driving and we have her son with us. Bad boyfriend or eh? My vote is eh

Were you on the phone the entire time?
Were you complaining about the cost of said craft beer?
Were you bitching about parking?
Ignoring the game to prattle on to people around you?

Cause you might be the perfect Cubs fan but an eh boyfriend.

Nope not on the phone only to post that on a piss break. Nope on price of beer as it was Firetrucker Burnout Brown Ale. Parking was free. Was surrounded by ftiends and watching all the pretty ladys walk by. But I do have on an Opening day 2014 shirt. And now drink a Yuengling on my back porch, realy wish we could get it here.

Its local government...still was a pretty regimented hiring process and like I said, the offer is still one I will say yes to just didn't know if it worth trying. The way raises work with the city it shouldn't take me long to get to the max salary, which also increases by 2.5-3% yearly...that and the pension make it worth it even if it will be tight the first year or two. It just means ill work as hard as I can ti make sure I get better performance raises every year on top of the cost of living raise

Ask Mac about city raises.

My Union negotiates my pay and raise. Everyone gets the same base rate. Everyone gets the same raise.

City counsel approves or disapproves it all...and bases it against the same % increase that other city jobs get.

Looks like a blast Mac. Maybe we can put together something like that over by Steelville for a mwc summer camping trip next year? Camping and Float Trip combined?

Union sets the cost of living raise standard for the city if Ames across the board....last year it was 2.75% then every division gives out raises to "merit" employees which is what I would be which adds an additional 2-6% generally, but sometimes larger. They somehow have managed to give raises even year for the last 30 years. I think the college being there helps a lot

Spent the day pulling up carpet and tack strips at my house so when the company we pick to put in the laminate floor in comes in, they just have to put it in to save money. Got one quote, three bedrooms and the living room, 6k. Going to see what the local company will cost us on Monday. I know that stuff was expensive versus carpet but it was a couple thousand more then I thought it might be.
