I used OSB, on my side walls in my ceiling. It's stronger and I like the look of it, not to mention there's no finish drywall to do.
Another thing about not having recessed lights is that you get a lot more light coverage laterally versus straight down from your light

OSB also makes it easier to hang cool shit from your ceiling

For sure. I also thought about doing white barn steel in the roof if I did fluorescent lighting. It is super easy to put up and way cheaper than buying osb. Plus it would help with the light.

K-man if you can find the white barn steel i would run that on the ceiling with fluorescent lights. Can put up the ceiling really quick by using the steel. Heck if you find a good enough deal on it you can even put it on the walls. That is what i am planning on using when i build my garage in the spring.

Not to be a pain in the ass, but there is a chance that if you put up OSB, and you ever sell the place, you may be required to either cover it with drywall or take it down, especially if it is attached to your house According to building code, OSB must be not be left exposed. That said, the walls of my shop are exposed OSB and I am going to cover the walls in my new two car garage with OSB. I just want you to know what risk there is.
I think there should be a test everyone has to pass quarterly to use the internet, and it should be controlled by the gov.

just replace your existing fixtures bulbs with LED ones.
You'll have to wire 110v to the tombstones and delete the ballasts. Simple, takes 15 minutes per fixture.
You'll have brighter instant on lights that you don't dick with for 10 years, and no fluorescent flicker.
honestly if you put up fluorescent lights these days with the prices of LED ones, you're an idiot. You can pick up ready to go LED fixtures for less than $30 these days, and retrofit tubes are less than $12 a pop if you go that route and update existing.

I was aware of that when I did mine, my garage is detached.
OSB will make it easier to burn it down, I told T if she ever kicks me out, all my shit is going in a U Haul and I'm tossing a match over my shoulder. Her next bf isn't going to enjoy MY garage. Lol.

My folks did this in their garage in WI, it's super bright.
I wouldn't rule out can lights though. At typical garage ceiling heights, a 5'x5' to 6'x6' grid will give a nice even light at jeep height. Look for deals on the 75-100 watt equivalent LED retrofit kits, which are also usually air tight designs, and you'll never be replacing bulbs.

I am putting white barn tin on the ceiling of my shop and hanging LED tube fixtures.
Then I am going to blow in insulation and heat it with the wood boiler I am rebuilding.
I am going to heat the shop, the house, the hot tub, and our domestic hot water with it.
It should save a ton on our electric bill, the hot tub and water heater alone are at least $75.00 a month in the winter.

Where are you finding the ready to go fixtures for $30? Quick google search shows around $50.
I also suck really bad at electrical. Luckily my grandfather worked for Medler Electric his whole life so he is going to help me with wiring. I'm going to add a seperate breaker box to the garage and run more plug'ins (currently only on one wall).

about every big ag shop in this part of the world has white tin interior walls and ceilings and is insulated. I want to get the inside of my big Morton building done one day...but I am not too quick with things now a days...

Back when i built pole barns years ago we did probably 75% of our buildings with tin interiors. The white tin makes them bright on the inside.

Everyone is nerdy in their own way. This is the plumbing wall for my hydronic heating system. The water is heated outside in a wood fired boiler. The warm water circulates through the manifold and back outside. I rewired my furnace so when the boiler water is hot, the thermostat in the hallway turns on the circulating pump and the furnace fan. If the water is cold, like the fire went out, the furnace runs normally. I am doing the same with the hot tub, when the internal thermostat calls for heat the circulating pump for that zone will come on. I am waiting for parts to finish the the two water zones. Best thing, it all runs on solar electric. Damn the Man!
