Important

I will be using a ventless heater ran off natural gas. They say these put out condensation. I think the biggest issue is when the room isn't ventilated well enough.

That is one of my next questions that I'll have that I think seanr will have an answer for me on. Just gotta get some measurements and pictures first.

I started with a ventless one that was called a garage heater, think it was around 30 or 40k BTU, in my detached garage. I built it extremely tight and well insulated, so the low oxygen sensor kept shutting it off. Traded it for a lower BTU one, still had issues, so I put a small vent near the heater and left the attic hatch cracked. On the lowest setting it keeps it 55 degrees in all but the coldest weather. I get massive amounts of condensation, have to run a dehumidifier, which probably negates most of my energy savings.

I've got a 34'x36', 12' ceiling height. I think probably around 10 double 4' fluorescents, and 5 quad fixtures. I plan on converting to LED. There is no other option in my opinion. I also run a hanging heater, 100k btu. It's wayyyyyy to big for my space, but it gets hot quick. It's fully insulated, with two layers in the ceiling. I let it get to about 60, and turn the tstat to 50 it really doesn't turn on but every 4 or 5 hours. Oh yeah, there's osb up, but I plan on covering it with drywall this spring. Don't forget, drywall does have some r-value, so does 6 mil plastic.

100k BTU Forced hot air in my shop, I picked up a new 80% efficient (80% = no water drain, so I turn it completely off when I am not out there) Goodman furnace for cheap, takes about an 1.5 hours to go from 40*F to 65*F. I love working in the warm shop ;) It is on wifi to so I can turn it on/off from my phone

I have the 1983 Rheem furnace that was in the house at one point. Duct work run to both sides of the garage. It's insulated better than the house. 28x60 total that never gets below 50 in the winter. I turn it up to 65 to wrench, 68 to hang, and 80 once to fornicate under the jeep.

Mines 20x24 block building with zero insulation. It's sweats badly and the walls are always wet through the winter and spring. It was on a shared 20amp breaker with the house. I put a 100amp sub panel in there two years ago. I have two electric heaters that I've been using but they barely take the edge off. Insulation would help a lot of it. I've got four 300watt bulbs in there for light. They do pretty good for cheap light. Fixture and all they were $10

Does anyone have an older vehicle that needs some love sitting around? Guy that works for me needs a car....

My buddy has an Isuzu Hombre 2wd that is uglier than SeanR, and it lost compression between 2 cylinders, likely a head gasket. He would sell it cheap bc we are going to pick up a tracker for him tomorrow.

It was his daily driver until that happened and he had a 40 mile work commute. He just used it to rack up miles and get good fuel mileage while his Duramax sits in a nice shop with hardly any miles on it.
