What does the 4L60E need to live in a tow rig?

It needs to not tow. It is not enough trans for what we do, ive destroyed a number of them. 2 in my z71 alone. If you're buying a tow rig dont waste your money on a chevy 1/2 ton. The 4l80 behind the 8.1 takes a beating and only asks for more....

We have only towed a hand full of times with our excursion and love it so far. We have the v10 in it and have had no problems with it so far. Wife daily drives it to work and fuel consumption isn't that bad. She drives about 15-20 miles round trip a day

Dont put big tires on a tow rig.

Define big tire? That's a very generic statement. It all depends on the truck and the gearing.

Josh pretty much hit the nail there. I got 10mpg towing on the winterfest trip with my 5.3ltr Hoe on the stock tires running 70-75mph. Mileage increases to 11 with the 33x12.50 i run on it normally but I will say that's probably 50% in town driving. Realistically if I keep it around 55/60 on the highway it'll get 14/15mpg on its current setup, and 13-15mpg what you should really expect as an overall average out of a GMT800 5.3ltr/6.0ltr as long as your not hammering on it all the time, and run a stock sized street tire.

Driving 65 makes a world of difference! I averaged 12 going to WF. We've pulled 18 driving 70 without a load.

I thought the 8.1 has the Allison Doug.

Shopping for a new to me tow rig. I can't find anything that really excites me.
Whatever I get, will not have the lack of comfort that the dodge had. Looking at Chevy and ford this time.
I had my mind set on the Chevy 1500HD until I did research and realized the horrible fuel mileage that the 6.0 gets. A consistent 12 mpg for a "1500" = boo.
I wish I had ecoBoost money. Haha

7.3

You can't go wrong. Cheap, reliable, easy to fix. I love mine. I know you said 6.0's are the same price but it's gonna hurt if that thing goes down and needs 2-5k worth of repairs.

Pay him $3500, have a good tranny built for 1500. Boom!! Just like that you are almost as kool as kman!!

he was talking 6l gas chevy fool.

7.3's still have expensive high pressure injectors and pumps.

Turbo IDI FTW in the ultimate dirt cheap to run and own diesel. Shame they've all rusted to nothing up here.
