Important

im at a loss....

i am trying to pull the carrier out of my D44. i have pulled carriers numerous times without much of an issue. this one is not budging. i broke a shaft and a piece of it is still in the splines of the locker. i do not want to use a case spreader. what are peoples normal tricks of the trade?

im starting to think the locker got wrecked which is causing the issue....

Can you take out cross pin and knock Brocken pieces out from other side?

detroit locker

i was hoping to go from the opposite side thru the locker and pound out the broken piece but it doesnt seem like the locker passes all the way thru

Uh oh. Detroits are well known for getting eaten when a shaft goes. The piece inside has most likely spread out and lodged itself in the carrier, the spear shape shows that. Pry, beat, and repeat. Good luck, worst comes to worst chain it and pull.

Working on trailer lights is alot better on a 70 degree day in October, rather than on a some semi-random day in February. Especially, when you are fixing your own screw-up.

Just pick the thing up, put it in a 20 ton press and use the pinion to push it out.

You're making me wary of my Spartan...

Worked my regular 5p-3a shift yesterday, then worked a warrant service detail from 4a-10a, now I'm back on my 5p-3a shift. Thank goodness we are going to Brown County for a 4 day weekend starting this afternoon. What day is it again??

after further investigation, it looks like Doug's theory is correct. the shaft expanded and cracked the locker. didnt have any chain to try pulling it out last night.

I guess I haven't been paying close enough attention, but what issues have you been having with the Spartan?

I'm going on 2 years with mine being in two different axles with 2 different gear sets (upgraded) and no problems so far.
