Finally got the title to the Mazda Ranger that Dad and I picked up. 3.5 months and two titles later. Dad took it and the bill of sale to the tag office today in hopes of getting plates and registration to finally make it road legal. Nope, not that easy.

Turns out, because it came from another state and has a salvage title, NC DMV wants to see it before they register it. OK, I get it. So back in the day you'd get a temporary pass so you could run it down to an inspection station, then back to the plate office once it passed inspection. Not so anymore. Now, a representative from the DMV must come out to the location of the vehicle (by appointment only of course) and look at the vehicle, with the owner and paperwork on site as well. Then, you go to the plate agency, pay some taxes, some fees, followed by more taxes and more fees, and go on about your day with your brand new plates.

The kicker? The department responsible for this "home visit" is only open MWF from 8-10am. Should make getting in touch with them nice and not easy.

I love NC but damn I wish they didn't make things 100x more complicated than necessary sometimes.

compared to spending a thousand+ dollars to put TBI on a 360 and regear it and everything else?

novak sells mounts for $200, I'd think you could come across a complete drivetrain for a grand.

4.8 LS +full sized waggy would get 20+ on the highway and still be enough to pull a jeep on the trailer.

lots of 4.8's complete with accessories and harness for 7-800 bucks

4.8ltr..... I'd be looking at a wrecked 2500 with either the LQ4, or a Yukon Denali/ Escalade with the HO LQ9!

It took 3-4 years, but the APN header finally failed...

Jeep is tore apart and I'm deciding if I want to wait for a warranty one or just weld it and throw it back in... Before I do anything I'm going to look at some motor mounts as well...

I can pick up an lq4 from my auto recycler on a pallet with the entire harness and fuel pump for 1500.

The entire supercharged lq4 drivetrain (including te 4l80e) in the jk tyler built was had and installed for under 5k

I went through two APN's on mine. First one was taken out by a failed motor mount, and warrantied, but the replacement wasn't made properly and had a huge leak between #3 and #4 (manifold wouldn't sit flush against the head). Got tired of waiting for shipping since it was my DD and picked up a Dorman off the shelf at o'rielys. Comes with a lifetime warranty through them, and dorman changed the design to include expansion joints.

Haven't had any trouble since. Going on 4 years now.

My 8.1 Yukon XL gets 13 if I baby it on the hwy with no load. With jeep and trailer it's about 7-9 depending on how fast I'm going, above 80 it's 6 or less...

Oh great... 9mpg I can tolerate, 7mpg and I will be pretty bummed. This weekend will be the first towing trip with mine. The 454 never did worse than about 8.5 towing, so I was hoping I'd pull 9-10 with the "new technology" 8.1.

I did a test run with the trailer the other day, and I do like how the vehicle isn't much slower with 6500# behind it... pay to play right :D

Also discovered I have three broken manifold studs, makes me queasy to think about drilling into the head. I think that will be a good job to outsource!
