Finally got the title to the Mazda Ranger that Dad and I picked up. 3.5 months and two titles later. Dad took it and the bill of sale to the tag office today in hopes of getting plates and registration to finally make it road legal. Nope, not that easy.
Turns out, because it came from another state and has a salvage title, NC DMV wants to see it before they register it. OK, I get it. So back in the day you'd get a temporary pass so you could run it down to an inspection station, then back to the plate office once it passed inspection. Not so anymore. Now, a representative from the DMV must come out to the location of the vehicle (by appointment only of course) and look at the vehicle, with the owner and paperwork on site as well. Then, you go to the plate agency, pay some taxes, some fees, followed by more taxes and more fees, and go on about your day with your brand new plates.
The kicker? The department responsible for this "home visit" is only open MWF from 8-10am. Should make getting in touch with them nice and not easy.
I love NC but damn I wish they didn't make things 100x more complicated than necessary sometimes.
