I was wondering the same thing. Seems like a waste of time for a 242 or 231. You guys may want to think about your shift linkage also. The stock transfer case linkage is a mess. ( that is the nice way to describe it) I had to go to a cable shifter after moving my transfer case up by about a 1/2 " when using the Clayton cross member. I can only see clocking if you were going to go to a dana 300 or and Atlas...

I'd just leave it be but it hangs low enough and my Jeep is low enough that a flat belly could be really helpful. Its not going any taller so I may as well create clearance. I'm with Mac though, not sure how you'd make the stock linkage work. IIRC Doug built a sweet crossmember for Sam's Jeep.
