I still can't believe that at 80k you have to put a timing belt on a Honda as PM...why doesn't it last at least 100k?

No timing belt lasts 100k.... Most manufacturers upped the maintenance mileage because of complaints resulting from such a major maintenance item before the 100k mark....

Ain't no way I'd trust any timing belt between the 80 and 100k mark

Just purchased some "bling" gussets for the new cage :)

Ram" it will either look pimp of like crap no middle ground....lol" Rod

SHO's have always been bad ass, my old man had one in the late 90's, 6 speed manual, it was a kick ass sedan.

I coulnd't spend the money on something brand new even if I had it, I would buy something that is a few years old that somebody has taken very good care of.

I would almost kill someone for a 2008-2010 F350 King Ranch CCSB!!!!!

I feel you on that k. but just think if you special ordered your car from the plant. then you had connections at the plant that were building your car and could send you pics of it being built. then it arrives with like 4 miles on it.
that could be cool.

that being said, the difference in a 1 year old car and a new car is like 15k...

i was told by the used car manager many years ago that a 3 year old car is the sweet spot. new enough to still be a new car but old enough to drop the price in half

bought my 99 durango for 15k in 2002. original sticker was in the glove box. in 99 it was 35k.

sold it in 2012 for 4k

I wouldn't buy any American car for its reliability. Same with German or European. All major POS vehicles. European cars have jumped in reliability standards ten fold in the last ten years and they are still junk.

Jap cars are where it's at. Korean cars aren't far behind right now.

I'd trust a Kia over a ford or Chevy right now.

pics when done!

Not my best work, but he told me it just has to e functional. He showed me pictures of the pit, it's above ground and made out of white stone. Looked really nice. It has crushed stone in the bottom so the legs I put on the grate just get pushed in the ground.

They could make the belt to last 100k...I think we all know this.

my buddy just had his done finally at 107k on a 2001 2 dr accord...but my buddy chaz that works at Honda cringed every time he saw that car after 80k until it was done two weeks ago.

I owned a Honda Accord back in the day that had 215k on the original timing belt. Actually everything but the oil, oil filter, trans fluid, spark plugs, plug wires, air intake, tires, and exhaust were still factory original. Of course I knew the timing belt was a ticking time bomb, but I left it for the new owner to do.

swapped a 247 out for a 242 in a friends WJ yesterday. the 247 was a time bomb, no fluid and cracked case, how it was still driving is beyond me. had to fully tear both cases down just so i could steal the input gear from the 247 and drop it in the 242. two things... getting the case apart on the 247 is a PITA, and getting the stupid roll pin into (and out of for that matter) the 242 is a horrible design. new process should have hired another monkey to design that one.

but... good 8 hours of wrenching. lots of laughs. lots of busted knuckles. no drippy drippy this morning, im happy, buddy is happy. next time im charging for labor, beer didnt quite cover it for me.

I buy vehicles based on how many junkyard donors are commonly available for the parts I can't fabricate.

edit: they can make timing belts to last 100k+, but if it costs less per mile to replace a much cheaper belt every 80k, why bother?

Our new car has a 100k power train warranty....timing belt will last at least that long or they are fixing it.

05 vue had150k on it when we traded it, had a Honda engine.

I've never been so proud of someone else's kid than I am today. If you aren't friends with me on Facebooks, my little cousin just got out of Basic and is now officially a Navy Sailor. He gets a few days off to spend with his sisters and parents then he ships off to Panama City for dive school, he's gonna be an underwater welder.

Wish I had 8k laying around to offer them and a garage to store it in.

I owned a Jetta for a month. Cost me $1200 in repairs and I hit a deer. Traded it with the deer damage.

I bought an 87 Jetta for $200(drove it home and for months without issue) and put $800 or so in maintenance parts in it in the year I drove it. Other than the starter being a bitch I loved it. But I bought my first Jeep so I ditched it.

They are going to laugh and tell you you should have had the required maintenance done if the timing belt fails between 80 and 100 and you try to claim it on the warranty.
