Important

I'm going to go look at it this week. Its only 20 min away. I should have grabbed my compression tester and extra battery when I was at the shop today. Its hard to tell from the pics if the motor took a shot...no broken pulleys though so that's a good sign. The interior is nice though.

Got the real pics of the other one with the bad cps ...kid said it was in good shape, but it was a trainwreck.

Craig, I have bought and repaired a few that were as bad as that. Like mentioned earlier, check the engine bosses and just visually check over the impact areas. The front substructre can be easily pulled/corrected. Make sure that it did not rip the metal on the unibody or substructure. If it is minor it can be plated an reinforced. I think Collin and I have both had ones that originally looked like that one :D I have really had the itch lately to build a bastard brew XJ just for thrash purposes, but then I remind myself I already had one of those. My C10 is getting paint this week, so once it is home and I am done with that project next year, I may consider another build of sorts...but momma wants a JK....

Cheese "I still am thinking a new boat for the new lake lot...." Man

Craig, I don't think that front crossmember has moved very much at all, the looks are just deceiving. Having said that, you will probably have a tough time getting everything lined up just right and it will probably be frustrating more than anything. But then again I hate body work :)

So since my rollover, I've been hunting for a new DD since my other XJ is headed to trail rig status. I ran across a 96 ZJ 4.0 for $600, very clean inside and out, definitely well kept by someone, but it wouldn't start. I expected the worst but compression and fuel pressure checked out. Finally noticed that air was coming out the intake trying to start, so I unhooked the down pipe and now it runs great. Just a clogged cat apparently which is easy enough to fix right.

I don't know that I've ever seen a cat so clogged that something wouldn't start. That had to run like crap for a long long time. Hope the valves aren't burnt.

I agree, it had crossed my mind that it could be clogged but I considered it unlikely. I would have to give it lots of throttle to get it to start and even then it would fall on its face and shut off after a second, there was no way it could be drivable like that.

I'm hoping there is no other damage, it seems to idle fine but it's so damn loud that I haven't ran it very much. Once I get the converter replaced I'll just have to drive it for a while and see.

I have. 90something 6.5 diesel.

Drilled a hole in it, it fired. Straight piped it, ran like a 6.5 again.

Suzi's brother inlaw just recently sold his mid 90's 3/4 ton extended cab 4wd 6.5 truck for $500. Had a little motor problems but we have recently seen it up and driving around just fine. Wish we would have known they were selling it for that cheap or else we would have bought it.

I have been thinking of buying another 6.5...
Really? Even with that 5.3 in your Avalanche? I know what I would pick given the choice.

Yeah I was thinking of finding a 1500 6.5 and DDing it. Which would really be silly since I have the Av, XJ and the company car to DD, but since when have you known me to be 'normal' about vehicles :D

The only reason I had when I was looking at 6.5's is I wanted to piss my neighbors off starting it every morning at 4am.

Other than that, they're turds!
