Important

Cat is not an acronym unless you can tell me what word each of the letters stands for. In fact, it's an abbreviation. It should be capitalized or left uncapitalized just like the phrase "catalytic converter" would be at the same point in the sentence.

CATalytic Converter ;) You get both results on the web.

So where did ""Dizzy"" come from oh wise one?

Don't know, don't care. You are wrong about it being an acronym, you can keep thinking you are right but you are still wrong. Sorry.

Acronyms:
PIN = Personal Identification Number
PCMCIA = People Can't Master Computer Industry Acronyms
DINK = Double Income, No Kids

note that the first letter of each word is used as part of an acronym, not the first 3 letters of the first word.

Abbreviations:
"inc." = incorporated, included
"cat" = catalytic converter

If you are going to be pedantic, be right, and don't jump on others about it while being wrong ;)

Technically, C.A.T. would be an acronym if the smog equipment on the exhaust was called "catalytic ass thingy". that would then be an acronym.

CAT, when referring to a catalytic converter is shortening the word cataletic to cat, like Daniel to Dan.

2004 pontiac transport minivan
a month ago we changed the alternator in it because it appeared that it wasn't working. after that the owner put a battery in it because it wouldn't start after being driven. everything seemed ok for a bit then the gauges would go dead and it would die and not start. owner took it to the dealer and they put a body control computer in it...still no change. the owner was driving it and the battery light was on. have to charge the battery to get it to start and it still wont charge the battery.

any thoughts? the owner bought a new car and wants to sell it...it was to have a forsale sign in it at my house but when it was brought over today it died and would only restart after sitting on the battery charger. i started it and my battery charger, which shows the alternator charging, doesn't show it charging (but I can't always trust this battery charger)...so now I'm wondering if the new alternator and the old alternator were both bad...

any other odd things that it might be other than the alternator...the owner just wants to sell it for as much as possible to be rid of it...running properly would bring more...

mac 'i might low ball him to flip it' gyvr

I will have to check out the battery connections...I assume (yes I know what that means) that the owner would've seen that when he put the new battery in a couple of weeks ago.

I'd like to have the alternator checked to see if its working properly with a tool better than my battery charger...and before pulling it again...

Is there a fusible link in the power wire between the alternator and the battery?

This is true

Is there a fusible link in the power wire between the alternator and the battery?

This, if its putting out at the alternator but not at the battery, a fuse-able could be blown... Most factory vehicles have one in the system somewhere, I think normally between the battery and starter, but some have them between battery and alt...

it may just be the fact it is a minivan...they can suck the life out of more than batteries...
