My 01 ram is distributed. I think something's wrong with it TH. my 2001 2500HD 5.9 V8 4x4 gets 14mpg avg. it's a bigger motor, it's modified, and weighs a lot more than a 1500. You should be getting 15+. See if do work chimes in. He has a 1500 but with a 5.9

Dan, put a coil in it if you haven't already. A guy we ran with last weekend had this happening. New coil fixed the issue.

Good idea. I happen to have one on my shelf.

Mac, why didn't you suggest this? You can diagnose a coil problem 300 miles away.

I do have a technical question. I filled up my dads truck today and it is only getting 10mpg, that is mostly city with some highway. At most, having a riding mower in the back. What is the easy things I can do to get that up? I am thinking plugs and air filter (I think he did the air filter already) at the minimal. It is an 01 Ram 1500 with the 5.2.

You should be getting about 14mpg's TH. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and aftermarket drop in filter are what I suggest for you.

Leaving for NacFest and running on two hours of sleep, this sucks lol.

Just like everyone else has said TH, a good tune up on the dodge should get some millage back. I have had 3 of the 94-01 dodge rams and they all didn't get over 14mpg. Just do a once over on it and you should get some of your mileage back.

4.88 is the way to go with 35s.
Stock brakes SUCKS with 35s.

I agree with Ken. Go 4:56's for gears. I've seen quite a few D30's with 4:88 break the pinion, its tiny.

make sure you have full circle clips on your shafts. If it was me I would add a truss they are not expensive if you can weld or have a friend that can weld.

I had 4:56's in a d30 on 35's for years and beat the crap out of my jeep. If built right with regular maintenance that is a very solid setup.

How much smaller is it really though? I would assume that typically if you break a 4:88 you would have broken a 4:56 also.

Good steering is a must, mine is getting a trussed housing this winter, I have stock brakes in the front but also have a disked 8.8 in the rear and my jeep stops awesome.

Don't forget all the ASD stuff. When the o2 sensor wires touch together, it pops the fuse.

I am going 35s on the up coming build, and just ordered 4:56s and a spartan locker from RWK. I also have IRO upgraded steering coming to, so...

for now the durango box is out of my price range, so stock it is for a while.

speaking of which, you guys that have went with the durango box, did you get one from the junk yard, new, or parts store?
