Important

I did some work for an elderly couple that lived over there. They knew they could be SOL if they needed 911 and there were trains parked.

When the wife was pregnant with our first kid I would drop her off at her moms in case she went to labor she wouldn't be trapped in between the trains.

Flexy you probably know this better than anyone else... say I have an inline 6 engine that's approximately 34" long, 36" tall (possibly a bit off, I need to check the oil pan shape and front diff clearance) and 24" of space available between the frame rails.

What Cummins motor can I fit in that space that makes at least 220hp and preferably around 500 foot pounds or more? SAE1 or 2 bellhousing.

- Ken "can't find block dimensions online to save my life" Stein

For the 5-ton? I'd say p-pump 12v. I have no clue what kind of bellhousing it would have. I build 11 liter and 14 liter injectors so I don't have much knowledge of a lot of the engine parts.

Picking up a new(to me) rid....ing lawn mower. 1987 snapper....yes, the one with handlebars! Should make quick work of my yard.

I looked at fitting an N14 but the answer is NO ****ING WAY will it fit. :(

Pity, because I really would have liked a red top N14 at 525hp/1250+ foot pounds... sigh :( it would stick through the hood and grille by like a foot and require me to cut both frame rails off to fit between them.

N14 is one of the engines I build injectors for. That would be badass in the 5 ton!

buddy has a 12v sitting in his garage. I can have him get rough measurements if you want.

I know a 6BT will fit - I just had my hopes up. "If I'm gonna spent 4 figures on a motor, I might as well go whole hog... damn... cummins n14 red top puts down some real nice numbers! and I can get one for 4-5k alone or 10k in a running driving truck with a tranny bolted to it!"

And then I went outside to measure my existing engine and my dreams were crushed :laugh2:

Turn the fuel up a little, build the p pump and get some bigger injectors and it'll wake right up! :D my buddy has a 12v for his f-350 and has a 68 bronco than has a 4bt and nv4500 in it. Still needs work but he got the motor in.and is expecting high 20's mpg on 37's.

I doubt I'll get that kind of economy with 10 tons tare weight... but I'll take anything over 10mpg and be happy with it.

Pretty sure I can find 6BT bellhousing pattern to SAE 1 or 2 bellhousing pattern adapters, too.

It's either that or find whatever inline 6 OTR diesel I can get that fits in the right space (L10? C series? M series?) with a decent overdrive mantrans behind it for like 3-6k in a beat up truck, drive it home, rip the drivetrain out and stuff it in my truck.

Yeah you're at a weight disadvantage against an early bronco for sure.

It's a lot warmer and your tow rig won't get stuck in the campground. The park is bigger (I think, I didn't get a real good feel for Attica.) There are trails for damn near any skill level and vehicle setup. From the impression I get of you/the other Empire guys, you probably should aim for the blue group if you want an easy day, black/red if you want to break shit and have a blast.

We're aiming for a somewhat calmer campground atmosphere this time around, there isn't really a bonfire type event (this year) but there is some good fun. Basically there are other campers around and we don't want to get kicked out of the campground / not allowed back next year so we can't be too ridiculously loud. Beer/alcohol is perfectly fine, just no really rowdy behavior.

The usual friday or saturday evening cookout and raffle/etc.

There's usually at least one person with a welder/other stuff around, so worst case you can put stuff back together if you get the word out that you need it, and there's a giant junkyard within about an hours drive that has literally thousands of vehicles, I counted at least 20-30 XJs plus other varieties of trucks and SUVs if you really end up in a bind and need parts.

I still need 91-95 fuel lines... :poke:

Calm is a bit difficult for us lol. We will have to give Justin a bed time and enforce it haha. I know we can't wait to wheel there and meet you guys

Been there done that... you should have come to 2010 2011 or to some degree 2012! 2010 was about like WF, we've been toning it down since then. I say we because I should have been, I tend to be one of the more rowdy ones though I'm working on that.

This junkyard is something like 400 miles from my house or I'd head there and grab you some... there is one up near me but I very rarely go there these days. Too busy/broke.

Ken ...i may still have access to one of these

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navistar_DT_engine

needs cylinder liner o rings...there are tons of write ups out there on it. seems fairly straight forward. if its still there i might be able to get it for next to nothing. still ran fine, just found water in oil so we parked it. i might have room for it in the back of the moving truck :)

According to one site I found:
DT466
45.1" Long
29.3" wide
40.8" tall
1425Lbs Dry

Damn :(

I think I could probably make a 40" long block fit, but 45" would be well into the "radiator's gone" range.

29" wide is pretty wide too. If it would fit between the frame rails at all it would require substantial cutting.

And 41" tall is about 6" taller than I have space for, though I'm pretty sure I could make that fit...

Length is the killer. Just too damn long... though I will remeasure tomorrow morning just in case there's something I missed. How much would you want for it?

Hell, how much would you want for it either way? Now I have stupid ideas in my head. Dammit, I have enough projects.

Walked into Fred Durst in a parking lot. Zigged when I should of zagged.

Best show I've seen in years. He got it together.

a trailer right behind mine went up in flames, burned to the ground because there was a train in the way. everyone got out fine but the place was toast.

my trailer was almost lost due to a grease fire while i was cooking. i got burned pretty bad but managed to save the trailer and get the wife out. kitchen was messed up though. fire trucks respond slow as shit even though there were no trains. by the time they showed up, i neighbor and i were putting out the fire with a snow shovel and snow while my face and arm skin dripped off

too much?

sorry
