Never been able to figure out why...if given a choice anyone would chose a front locker over a rear if you can only have one.

9 out of 10 times when you really need a locker you are climbing something steep where you have most of the weight transferred to the back.

I know this is a huge debate and everyone has their reasons. Just seems hard to argue with physics in that situation.

Front means it's invisible on pavement in 2wd, too. My reason was a cheap locker showed up first for the front axle, but it's nice to have a factory handling rear in 2wd, I have to say.

It helped me a lot more on steep climb type obstacles than I thought it would given exactly the same logic you used. That being said, I have my eye out for a 29 spline 8.25 LSD at the junkyard. Probably shim it till it's tight as hell and run it.

I had first decided to go with the front because A) that's the first point to contact an obstacle and I figured it would be easier to pull the front end up over something that push it from the rear. B) Because I still hadn't decided what I was doing about my rear axle.

I had the 29sp 8.25 and I knew options for lockers in it were quite limited. So I left the time to debate it. Found an Aussie for a steal in the national classifieds. Ran into a lot of trouble installing it and got rid of it shortly after. Decided to go to 4.10s and discs was a lot cheaper by grabbing an 8.8 than modding out an 8.25. Until I threw in that Detroit. Though I wouldn't do it different. Love that Detroit.

You just made my point for a selectable locker.

To paraphrase....

Pshhhhhh

Pshhhhhh

That is the sound of total invisibility and stock handling on the road.

Not all selectable's make this pssshhh pssshhhh noise I keep hearing about, only the most expensive ones. Lol.

$180 shipped for my aussie vs $1000+ for a selectable and all the required support parts. I'm not a rich man, so that was an easy decision for me, believe me, I'd love selectables. Saving $800 meant buying a second jeep so I could stop worrying about getting to work Monday. Or more accurately, worry about getting home from the trail AND worry about getting to work Monday.

Ideal world? Selectables in both ends, 60s, deep gearing, beadlocks, and a twin stick transfer case. Real world? I don't have the money for that and have to pick and choose and buy stuff as it comes along for a good price...

Told my coworker this morning about my decision and that I am leaving. He had a very sad look on his face and I feel like I've let him down. With me moving on they are going to need to find someone experienced in autos, and is trained to teach PLTW POE,DE, BE classes. In otherwards, they are in a very tight spot. If they're lucky, they will find someone with Autos experiences and *maybe* training in one of those classes... I told my principal that I would do everything in my power to help them find another teacher to fill my shoes.

Oh you didn't hear? ARB's are $350 ... You would be stupid not to run them....

:flipoff.

Wasn't someone running a deal not to long ago that if you bought an ARB locker you got two sets of gears with it for free???

Here is my two cents on all this talk about lockers. Buy what you can afford and run it. You can make just about anything work and last if you are smart about your wheeling. I don't really see the need to have 2 grand wrapped up in lockers
