From a legal perspective, home distillation *FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION* isn't legal without filing with the BATF and paying the taxes (yeah, that's an edit. Sue me.) No problem discussing it, just no practice, please. Basically, ferment and distill. No aging for 'shine. No lead! No car radiators! Copper & silver solder only.
And it still really burns me that I have to thank Jimmy Carter for legalizing home brewing.

I'd like to know how Discovery is getting away with that show. Or even more how Arron and his buddies are getting away showing discovery how they do it without getting arrested.

They aren't actually producing. The main guy in that show does it legally now. It's all staged. Read that online last year when the show came out.
Agreed. I'd be very surprised if the BATF isn't trying to figure out who/what/where/when it's being filmed. I'd be willing to bet that the Discovery Channel is using the "journalism" defense, and quite honestly, it's more entertainment than journalism.
I saw _Lawless_ a couple of months ago. Pretty good movie. *VERY* violent. It's not for kids, period. And not for anybody with a weak stomach

So it must be true!
But it was some type of interview with discovery if i remember. There wouldn't have been a second season if it wasn't true. They name the towns they are in and everything. I am pretty sure the guy did it to get legal with the money discovery paid him. If I remember correctly he talked about wanting to do it at the end of the first season (haven't watched any of the new yet).

back on the east coast for a week...the show is 4 days behind due to the hurricane and the most recent snowstorm. lots of down trees out where we are, but thats about it. its weird seeing people in line at the gas pump waiting in lines with gas cans though...i guess im confused as to how they are having difficulty getting gas out here...all of the roads are open

Spoiler alert incase you are one of those people who cant be told anything about the show before you watch it.
the new season they follow like 4 different "teams". the main guys from last year are pretty much saying they are being followed and watched so they are showing how there building up a spot to legally make it.
i can see discovery playing the whole thing up for TV. i will still watch it knowing that. its still better than most shows out there.
i am waiting for justified to come back on!

Picked up 50 more shotgun target shells today, going to start to stock pile for next year (and maybe some shooting over winter at the sporting clay's place). Next time I will probably pick up the 100 shells from Walmart for 23.97 unless I can find them cheaper.
Also, next Friday, I am driving my Grandma down to a cousin's house. She is staying there for a few days and then to my Aunt's in Kentucky. While she is gone, I get to drive her car. Since it gets almost double the gas mileage my Jeep gets, I am going to do it (2009 Accord).
