Important

Varies by employer. I have occasionally done sidework for friends or family. If I needed to use my employers resources, I always asked permission.

I know people who do side work that is the same as their regular employment ; they are very very careful not to eat where they shit.

yea, you don't want to be promoting your lil shop at home to your employers. but it does seem like the punishment was a little harsh.
was he new/did not know?
was he warned?

biggest question
did someone turn down work because of the price and he go out there and offer it cheaper?
if so thats terms for firing

He was not promoting it to his employers, A guy showed the boss a facebook post from my buddy about possibly doing sidework and they fired him for it. To me, what a guy does in his garage is his own damn business.

Was the facebook post saying to the lines, "hey, if anyone needs work done, I do things in my garage for cheap". Or was it someone asking him if he would work on his car since he knew he could. If he was doing it because they knew he did it for a living, possibly. If they asked him to do it because they knew he could work on cars and wasn't using company resources, I don't see how it was bothering the employer if he wasn't saying I work at this place doing the same work. Also, was there a written rule about it or an implied rule that no one knows about until they violate it.

This would be the biggest no no. One rule I've always held to was never, ever, EVER do side work for a current/past customer of your employer. To do so, in your bosses mind, is stealing from them. You can't be employee and competitor at the same time.

He did not do that. he simply worked on their cars when they couldn't afford the labor rate at his shop. He never tried to take business from them, just did it so he could supplement his income when work was slow so he could pay his child support and take car of the kids.

If he was undercutting his employer I can see why he got fired.

No matter how good his heart is, there are still lines drawn in the sand.

mac 'if he's good he'll find employment somewhere' gyvr

Also, these people were not customers of the shop. He will find employment it just sucks.

Had a guy make an offer on the Suburban yesterday. I'm gonna take it and pick up another truck down the line. The ZJ will become the DD since nobody wants it.

It was a tough decision, but I miss having a truck bed and I won't be driving anything but a company car after Dec. 1 anyway.

Thanks for all the input guys.

I suggested to her to wait till Christmas as it would be after her first trimester. This is her first, but my 4th.

I lost two with my ex-wife. She had ectopical pregnancy that damn near killed my ex-wife. She was in her 23rd week with twins and she did not go in to the doctor till she woke up screaming and bleeding one night. Scared the hell out of me. I told her it wasn't right to be in pain all the time before that and to go to the doctor. One emergency surgery later.:tear:

My Fiancee' has agreed with me that we will wait to let everyone know. The hardest part is not telling my 11 year old daughter, as she has been talking on how she wants a brother or sister. That is until they get into her things lol.

At the Ford dealer, we could only work on our junk on our own time if there wasn't any shop work or cleaning to do. We could also work on immeadiate family vehicles.

If you were working for another shop, or making money on side working on cars, you were canned, no questions. It was considered lost profit to the stealership. I had to be careful about mentioning where I worked on the heep when not at the shop. If they had found out about Max-Bilt, I would have been done.

Saving for Moab, No KOH this go around for me.
