ya if i had to stick to a 1/2 ton it would be a toyota....or just go for an older truck and go 3/4 ton....the burb is an 01 but it does the job for a lot less money than a newer 1/2 ton

my FIL has had 2 Tundras...first one he was in a 70 car pile up and was doing 70+ into the back of a stopped car...walked away with a broken toe and a cut eyebrow from the airbag blowing his glassses into his face. The crumple zones are what saved him. The truck shoved the motor and tranny onto the ground and the back of the bed was nearly into the top of the cab, but the cab was the safety zone and it worked flawlessly. He went and bought the second one after that and just recently sold it to go to a diesel farm truck b/c the Tundras are just simply too light duty for how we use pick up trucks on teh farms. Other then being to light duty, not a single complaint from him.

wow...not a lot of people walk away from that.
i would really like a tacoma or earlier toy midsize pickup for a dd, then i can give her the car...too bad i can't seem to find any that are blown up in my area. Thats the only way ill afford one is to rebuild it

My do work dodge 2500 has almost 200k on it with a 46RE (gas 5.9) and its been a tow pig most if its life and I really haven't had any issues with it other then poor MPG 12ish. Zero tranny issues.

I wouldn't worry too much about those fords and the spark plugs...they are an easy fix.
If you could get an eccoboost motor that would be even better.

that's because in order to get the first gen tundra's to compete for the 1/2 ton market in tow capacity they had to stuff 4.10's in the axles, the 2uz makes hp but not a ton of torque so they had to make it up somewhere.
at least when the burb is getting 12mpg i know it can tow a house.
everyone is proud of their toyota, its a bane of the market. just because it says toyota doesnt mean your 89 22re 4x4 is worth 6k with 225k on it

yeah aaron, im still in lexington till saturday. i've seen a lot of super clean xj's here...both old style and late models.
austin, i would go with the ford as well. i like the ford half tons...they seem to be heavier duty than most.
the tundra frames are bad news...very light duty. i would never buy a tundra personally, but i dont' think they are terrible by any means

Saw an ad for the local ford dealer. An XLT lariat 4x4 with ecoboost was 2k more than an f-250 XLT with a 6.7.

Just wondering if this 03 F350 with the 6.0 Diesel is worth the 10k... Has 191k miles on it...

That truly depends on what work has been done to it previously. i used to give the 6.0 all kinds of shit. but once all the main problems are taken care of they can make really good power.

I'd never buy a Toyota truck to pull with.
I would however buy one to wheel and make long excursions to the desert with. I would feel 10000000X safer in the middle of nowhere depending on a Toyota's reliability than I would a Jeep.
