Could just be normal operation. Any open coolant system is designed to bleed air out through the overflow. It may not be serviced correctly and what you were seeing was the result of some boiling.
A flush and fill will probably fix it right up.
Outgassing in the bottle of a 6.0 diesel is an indication of blown head gaskets.
Good thing the fan works. It went out on my dads. Not a cheap item to replace.
Thank you both for the reply. I was thinking that it could be normal but it was very loud...louder than I've heard on any other vehicle.
The coolant looks pretty ugly...I think a flush and fill is in order before going to the trans shop. It was running warmer on the drive home, but it didn't over heat per se. On a side note, the fan does work.
I think I mentioned but the battery is marked 7/12 and it has a k & n in it.
Also, I think we will call it, project no payment.

It could be air in the system or it could be a blown headgasket. Id start with a flush and fill if it looks nasty and go from there.
I won! Beat a built 4 runner on 60's, 38's, and a 355. And the third guy was a crazy mud buggy thing that broke his rear DS.
