Personally I think people remembering this event by posting pics and videos of that day is great. I was soooooo pissed when the major networks decided to quit showing photos and videos of the towers coming down.
For a few weeks after that event we were actually one, undivided nation. Everyone was on the same side. We were mad, hurt, shocked and we all wanted revenge. It wasn't long before the more "sensitive" types wanted to forget. They wanted to bury their heads in the sand and pretend it never happened at all. To me that attitude was almost as much of a tragedy as all the lives that were lost that day.
IMO even though it was eleven years ago today we should still be just as pissed, shocked and hurt as we were the day it happened. Vigilance might keep it from happening again.
Personally I was relieved when I didn't have to see those towers being hit all day long. You see, I worked in a TV and Appliance shop. Every TV, no exception was tuned in to CNN, NBC, CBS, etc. ALL Day long, and most of the Next Day, heck, all that weak. Tower 1 hit, Tower 2 hit, Pentagon hit, Flight that went down in the field. Absolutely no escape. All tragic News, all day long gave this Jeep enthusiast PTSD. I can't even watch an old movie with the towers in it without thinking of that day. I would, just F'n once, go though a 9/11 and NOT have any Towers crash, Flags fly at 1/2 mast, Politicians make stupid speeches on how it will never happen again, or see another post on the subject. But I know that's not going to happen...sigh.
<RANT>The real tragedy of 9/11 was not just the Towers and the thousands of innocent workers, and 1st responders who were killed or injured that day.
It is that we allowed our Government to take away our liberties in the name of "Security". We allowed Government to base policy on an exception, not the rule.
I don't know if a lot of folks realize this, but in the early morning hours of 9/12 we lost Meigs Field in Chicago. No, it was not "Terrorists", but the Mayor of Chicago "ensuring our safety" by taking bulldozers and carving a big "X" in the runway. Because of that day, we generated another agency with farther reaching powers than even the CIA "For our safety". Post 9/11 the sales of security cameras has skyrocketed. Same with Security system of all types. You can't even pick your nose without it being on some camera somewhere. Internet spying, yep that happens too. Wiretapping, we don't need no stink'n warrant!
Since 9/11Defense spending has skyrocketed, and exploration in Space, which actually has tangible benefits, has been cut.
Some think that loosing a few freedoms to ensure everyone's safety is an awesome idea. That's an interesting idea, but there will always be those with a demented purpose who want to take it out on their fellow humans. You can't plan for the wild hair up your azz, or someone else's wild hair. And unless we want to become Britain were walking down the street is monitored by the Police and that even owning a gun is a jail-able offense, we better start voting better.</RANT>
Sooo, after all that.
Thank You to the 1st Responders for their sacrifice that day. Remember those who are still paying for it though poor health.
Thank You to all the Soldiers who have fought and sacrificed all they had in this world so that we could sleep better.
