Important

So the "Detroit" in my 8.8 is actually a truetrac, this whole time I thought it was a detroit locker, when It was sold to me he said it was a locker.......damn it. Don't think I was purposely lied to. I should have opened it up a long time ago to check.

It'll be fine. Better than nothing, and since your rig is a DD you will like the street manners much better.

there's usually a thermal fuse buried in there somewhere. It'll look like the usual ones, either a little metal can with two leads, or a little round plastic housing with two 1/4" quickdisconnects, or a ~3/16 diameter metal tube with a wire on one end and a conical plastic nose on the other with a wire coming out of that too. The color of the plastic tells you the temp rating iirc, some have it stamped on the side. The quickdisconnect ones all have it printed on the side and the metal cans I forget... some of them may be jammed up between the windings on the stator. Do yourself a favor and spend a bit of time with a multimeter and your thinking cap and see if you can figure out which wires do what on the stator and rotor / brushes, then the problem may become clear.

ive replaced thermal fuses on a few electric motors before, but i didn't see one on this guy. i didnt dig into it much though. i rented a rug doctor for tonight, but im going to try to mess with it more later tomorrow. my meter is at the shop so i may have to wander back over there later

Well, it is a Detroit and it is a locker... ;)

This is the main thing to focus on. As long as you don't feel you overpaid for the axle... It takes a lot of work to get my 95 parked in a parking spot at the edge of the driveway. Lots of wiggling since the tires bark hardcore at slow speed, full turn maneuvers. Though I didn't really notice it much when driving. But I've only driven maybe 20 miles on the road. Mostly straight driving.

That's actually kinda clever! I almost want it.

Josh, a truetrac is a limited slip not a locker.

And you guys give me chit when I piss & moan about DD mine with the front & rear locked on dry pavement. Thank goodness I have 2 other Jeeps to fall back on or the camry.

finally back on the intarwebs at the house again.

storm/power outage killed my WRT54/DD-WRT box. So I dug around in the "random box o network" and came out with a "bricked" Asus WL500G.

about 2 hours with TFTP and some firmware and now it's unbricked and running DD-WRT v24 Mega. Complete with FTP and Samba support for USB hard drives. Yay!

for those un nerd.......

blah blah blah
saved hardware
blah blah blah
does neat things
blah blah blah
Yay.

Back to nerd:
I need to crack it's case and heatsink it's chips like I did the WRT so I can run it at 150 mW with no issues. The WRT last years like that. Heatsinks FTW.

Just had a chat with Jim, he's still awesome. He is giving a set of wheels to my buddy. His limited needs a new set of wheels because the snowflakes are toasted.

which Jim? IllXJ Jim? regardless, yeah, he is good cheese in my book.

well apparently i win the stupid head award of the day. took the rental rug doctor downstairs to try to finish the carpets. tried every outlet in the basement...nuttin. ran an extension cord and it worked. what do you want to bet there is nothing wrong with my damn carpet steamer that i just took apart today. gah...i checked all the breakers for the basement before i took it apart, but what do you want to bet it is wired with the stupid push in outlets and the wire popped out. well...looks like i'll be playing electrician and putting my steamer back together tomorrow.

I hate those push-in outlets with a vengeance. Give me side-clamp terminals or give me death by house fire.

The ones I'm using in the house are the best of both worlds, they are back wired but instead of a stupid spring terminal inside, they have a screw on the side and a square washer inside that clamp the wire quite securely. They even hold up to 4 wires per side of the outlet (2 per outlet if the bonding bars are removed).

Speaking of outlets, that is one thing I need to replace where I live now. All the outlets are original to the house or close to it (it was built in 1948) so none of them have the third ground plug. Yes, I could just get the adapters to make it not use the third one, but for how much the adapters cost, I can just get a new outlet. Of course, the first thing is to figure out what circuit breakers go to what. I found out today that one kitchen light, the kitchen ceiling fan, the microwave outlet and my bedroom ceiling fan is controlled by one breaker. When the fuse panel was replaced a few years ago, the electrician didn't mark what each breaker was for! Some outlets have been replaced with newer ones already.

... you need to actually ground those outlets AND those adaptors when you use them, you know that, right?

Not doing so is a great way to get your insurance company to laugh in your face when you get electrocuted or the place burns down.

yeah they suck a lot...in one of my old apartments i thought my tv had died a few weeks after i bought it. most of the dang outlets with the push in wiring have side screw terminals too, but people are lazy. im not sure if thats whats going on here (rental property) but only one way to find out
