you need a company car...

It would be owned by the company, but when the company is owned by me, is it really a company car?
Just gets paid for out of another pocket, and the tax advantages are better.
The company owns the black trailer and the Li'l Dumper already.
I would like to get a small pickem up truck so I can still haul tools and such in the bed.
I have looked at MJs but they are non-existent in good shape...

I know, that's why I said that lol

Right now my company car is a colorado...its not very good on fuel either.

A two wheel drive 4 banger ranger or 3.0 v6 ranger would probably get decent mileage. Good luck finding an MJ. Probably save a ton of miles on your 250.

I say go with a 4.5" pack and a 1.5" lift shackle if you are looking to get 6" of lift. As far as a brand goes, I would go with RE, Rusty's is ok, OME is one of the best out there, Alcan is great but expensive, Deaver is great but expensive. I say spend some coin and go witha good leaf spring.

I have RC 4.5" leaf packs, 1.5" JKS shackles, 1" lift from the UBE's, and HD shackle relocation brackets which the way I have them adjusted they give me about 1" of lift. All of this gets me about 7"-8" of lift. The 4.5"RC leaf packs are hardly used and they are about 1" less than when I put them in three wheeling trips ago.

well the difference in rustys 6.5 and 4.5 is only 55bux so i though maybe i should go with the 6.5 in case i want to throw on the 2in space and shackle later for 8. you have 8 right? is it nice or would you rather have 6?

also i should note that i already have brand new 35s so that is the biggest tire(for now) that will go on. but im thinking i spend the extra 55 on 6.5in. but now that im thinking i remember hearing that you have better flex with the 2in shackles, true?

When I had my 36" irocs I was happy at 6" of lift and a decent amount of trimming. Now that I am on the 38" mickeys I had to jump to up in the front with RC 6.5" coils and 2.75" spacers. The front bumper and winch settled it some to put me at about 8.5" I would say.

You would get more flects out of a 4.5" with 2" shackles and HD relocate brackets.

I've been quite happy with my 4.5" BOR HD leaves and a 1.5" dogleg shackle. Unfortunately, they're no longer available.

While Rusty is a heckuva nice guy, 10 years ago, I flattened his 3" leaf pack in very short order. The springs were very flexy, but not designed for the load that I customarily carry (tools, spare parts, etc.) I can't tell you what his current set of springs looks like.

I got the OME 3.5 leaf packs (last set on the eastern coast) a year and a half ago and to this day they have yet to sag.

Awesome ride, but they've since dropped the 3.5 packs and only sell 2in packs now I believe...

Can't wait to get the new shackles and HD relocate brackets... Super Flex

what choices do i have besides rustys for 6in leaf springs?

My rear setup has Rusty's 3" leaf packs. They're actually 3.5" + 1" UBEs + HDOE boxes = roughly 5.5" with a stock shackle. Add in a 1.5" shackle and you're looking at ~7" which is a good amount to go with 6.5" front coils. But it's always the same in the end, to each their own.

A lot of people are leery to do UBEs. A lot of people just don't feel like burning in new perches. It was a good option I had to me when I swapped in an 8.8.

You guys with 'ecnoboxes' to drive every day, how does that work out?
I am kicking around the idea of a $2000.00 Ranger to drive daily and only use the ftwofiddy when I need to pull a trailer.
Does the extra insurance and the $100.00 license off set it the savings?
I get around 18 mpg daily with the ftwofiddy.
What would I be saving besides wear and tear on a truck it would cost >$25,000 to replace?

We got 32.5 MPG coming back from Tyler's in Molly's Camry. I'm leaning toward one of those since they actually have room in them. A guy at work gets about 26mpg on the highway in his 4 banger 5 speed ranger....and it has 444k on it.

4.5" with shackle is the best way to go. Period.

Big Off Road (made by Alcan) are the very best leaf springs you can buy.

I have beat the shit out of my alcan springs with never an issue. do it right the first time

I had my springs custom built by Alcan 10 years ago.

I may be able to stop by Sunday if you guys are free. I think I will be up there around dinner time. I can call you when I leave Bloomington on Sunday

bm 'just dropping by' yohn

Call/text me and let me know when you might be by. Not sure on the plans for the day just yet.

All this talk of leaf springs. I got tired of them becoming a twisted mess. I've been on coils of one type or another for over 10 years.
