BOR's HD leaves are known for being designed for heavy loads, aka a lot of extra weight. Sort of the opposite of very soft springs like Rusty's. Me, I've been able to stuff my 33s right up into the top of the wheel well, almost at will.

Just FYI...


My 6 cyl 4x4 Ranger gets 18-20 pretty much all the time, less in the winter. The first Ranger got 17 consistently, but it had the 4x4 Level II package.

Maybe I'm giving BOR too much credit for their cookie cutter Alcan springs, I know when I called Alcan to order my springs I gave them all my specs and they built them. When i chopped my body, I did remove one of the leaves to bring the back down, but that gave me a bunch of axle wrap so after several years I recently put the leaves back in and my wrap went away.
There is no evidence of them distorting.

Rusty is a great guy, and I've destroyed many of his leaf packs. I know he's dealt with most of the issues with his springs but I still don't think I'd go that way.
 
I have always kinda wanted a 5.9L dakota but I doubt it would be much of a gas saver but anything it better than my 5.9L gas ram 2500. my 59 zj got decent mileage and was really fun, fast, and comfortable to drive so I have always wondered what a light weight 2wd Dakota would do with the same drive line.
 
I have the 6.5" BOR HD rear leaves and ran them with the TNT boomerang shackles. I had to take a center long leaf out and ran that way for about 2 years until last fall I put it back it and now it actually rides and flexes like I want it too.

Sean, you could get an early gen Cummins, everyone knows that they get 33 MPG towing uphill in an ice storm...and they are pretty affordable now too.

My MJ gets 18-21 highway depending on how heavily loaded.

That's with a 5-speed and 3.07 gears.

Depends on how thick of plywood....
 
Obviously an XJ won't haul sheets of plywood much better than a Camry, but I've strapped 30 12' 2x4s on my XJ, and fit a pair of real sawhorses, table saw, miter saw, compressor, nail guns, sawzall, drills, and 100 other misc. things inside. Fuel economy is a little better than the van, the gas vs diesel doesn't make too much difference currently, but I just hit 200k on the XJ, bought it with 170k, so that's 30k miles I didn't put on my van. '06 van has under 36k.

And the XJ is a lot more fun to drive, and much cheaper to repair, than the van.
 
I've hauled a dozen sheets of 3/4 plywood and a few dozen 8 foot 2x4s with my MJ at the same time.

Also, I have to say, my Rustys 4.5" SUA leafs I got a year and a half (approx) ago haven't sagged a bit. I've abused them pretty badly, including hauling half a ton of firewood at a time through what amounts to a green / intro level wheeling trail with no bumpstops, and they are still just as good as the day I installed them. The included bushings were absolutely horrible and wore out to the point that there was metal to metal contact in under 10k miles of driving (most of it unloaded or lightly loaded on the highway) but the leafs are great.

Kind of my shining.

And mostly, when we go up to the lake, I can pull the camper and Lar can pull the boat with it and I won't have to make two trips.

We are hosting a Diaper Keg at Club R here in Fort Wayne on Friday, July 27th, 2012.

A bunch of you should've got an invite via facebook. If you didn't, it was just an oversight, or we aren't friends yet. Either way let me know and I'll get you the info.

Plenty of place to crash if you are from out of town.

If enough people want to party on the 28th as well, I'll take that night of from work too, I just have the 27th off already.
