Damn sucks josh..
If it weren't for bad luck ...

Josh, I think unemployment will give you some leads on jobs. Doesn't mean you will want them, but you never know. Sometimes this ends up being a blessing is disguise. It was for someone close to me. Hope you find something else real soon.

Oh, I will. I wanted to find another job anyway, but the schedule never allowed me time to look for another. Plus I'm lazy and I left it as status quo.

Dealer called about dad's 4.7 v8 in his WJ...in case anyone cares...

Number 1 and 3 are low on compression. Number 3 fails leak down test. Using a camera of some type they checked the number 3 cylinder and found bad scarring to the walls of the cylinder. They definately say its an internal issue.

I can't pick it up til Monday, got too much going on. Once I pick it up, I'll read exactly what the dealer's notes say to the engine builder. Then he either fixed the motor with me giving him the Jeep, or I'll pull the motor and take it to him and he can give me a full refund.

Have him pay the dealer to drop in a Mopar reman. Too much of your time and money has been spent already to monkey around re-pulling the engine or taking it to Franklin from the Fort.

Mac, would you *REALLY* trust that builder with your Dad's Jeep? Pull the engine, strap it to a pallet, and get a full refund plus the dealer's charge.

This is really what I want to do. Unfortunately I'm afraid that he's not going to issue a full refund. I think the money was spent paying other bills and he had to wait for more orders to get the money to buy the parts for our motor. It was done on a credit card so I'm sure that we might be able to fight it that way.

I'm not going to call him until I get the Jeep back with the dealers notes.

Wow that's bs mac!

this will never happen.

agree, however...

my thought is that first he's going to try to blame the damage on Mac.

second, if mac talks his way out of accepting blame, the guy will try to replace motor with another motor, having mac do all the labor.

best case the guy will replace the motor at his shop/expense and return the jeep running in tip top condition.

hopefully this guy is worried about how he looks and doesn't want the bad press that is certain to follow if mac isn't happy.

Mac, you want to get on the credit card thing ASAP, you do have time limits to consider. Me, I'd yank the engine, strap it on a pallet, and give him a very simple choice. Refund plus dealer's charge, or I'm going to fight the entire charge through the credit card company and possibly retain a lawyer to investigate potential fraud charges as the engine was absolutely clearly not ready to run.

Keep the thoughts and comments coming. Gonna use this weekend to devise a plan.

A standard boroscope most likely. We have a video boroscope here at work with digital picture capabilities, but it's pricey at about 15k.

Too bad you can't get pictures of those cylinders. It's going to be hard to prove that this was the builder's fault.
