The two place trailer (34ft bumper pull), lost both fenders on the way to its new home and rubbed two tires badley...the fender mount fell off on one side...

WTH? The shots in your ad look like nice trailer. Did he hit something?

It is/was a nice trailer...very nice

no clue what happened, its been all over the country without an issue...

i'm having trouble rounding up a car trailer to go pick up the xj i am buying on tues...would it be safe on a car dolly if i pull the rear drive shaft? i would be pulling it with a chevy 1500

it'll be fine. Pull the rear shaft just in case (forget which years keep front and rear shafts slaved together with the TC in neutral) and duct tape the bottom half of a coke bottle over the end of the transfer case.

also, I'm not getting to NYC till late tomorrow or possibly tuesday. Beer will have to wait till next time most likely.

My DD neon is in the shop getting a waterpump, headgasket, and timing belt installed. So I ask the other writter to swing by and grab me on his way in. No problem I'm 5 mins off the highway and he said he would be here by 6:20am. Hadn't seen him at 6:35 so I call him and hear his alarm sounding in the back ground.

I asked if I woke him up and he says no he's just having a little alarm issues. So here it is 7:15 we were supposed to be at work at 7 and here I am still on NAXJA. I hate relying on other people.:flamemad:

What do you do...

Hopefully the neon will be done today and I won't have to worry about it. Otherwise I'm taking a loaner home if it's not done.

that's what I was not sure about. I had heard that some 231s from the RENIX era lock the front/rear outputs together in neutral... and an 87 XJ would probably have one like that.

Disconnect both the front and rear D.S.s from the axles, wrap duct tape around the u joints to hold the caps on and wire them up underneath some where.
I drug mine all over the country like that.
Just don't leave the u joint clips laying on a picking table 1200 miles away.....

If it as a 231 t-case, you will be fine putting the case in N and flat towing/dolly it w/o ds removal.

only the later 231 cases.

mine locks the front and rear together in neutral.

87 'but it's almost as old as me' manche

My 95 231 was locked together in neutral. Tried to flat tow to Tellico in 2001...ended up pulling the front shafts and putting outers only in with hubs, sort of a really manual hub lol. For a tow dolly I'd just pull the rear shaft at the axle and strap it in really good so the driveshaft will hold the tcase seal. No need to pull the front shaft.

hey...my name changed colors...how did that happen :)

For the record. The trailer was in working order when I sold it and I wasn't trying to sell anyone a piece of junk. I have talked with the buyer and he is good. He can weld and will fix the fenders. He's very happy with how the trailer pulls empty down the road and can't wait to put a couple cars on it. I'm also working with him on helping him get two new trailer tires, the ones I had on it had a replacetment warranty.

That I am aware of this is the first time I have sold something that has had an issue on the trip home and I feel really bad about it.

As he said in a text to me, it could've happened to anyone.

i would be lying if i didnt say that i would be slightly nervous about shearing the bolts on the yoke when i pull the shaft...its an 87 and the whole reason i'm getting it is for the d44 thats sitting underneath it...the rest is going to be parted and sold, but that yoke is part of what i want! i'm going to bring my map torch just in case they are little buggers and dont come off. from the pics i got it looks crusty...

i'm thinking about taking it to a buddy to sandblast it so i can paint it before it gets regeared and locked...i'm assuming its fine to sandblast an axle as long as the ends are sealed...i'm also looking for a good disc brake write up. i've been told that its not as easy as adding them to the 8.25 and the d35. has anyone here done it?
