Mac I agree on the wobble vs. death wobble. I experienced it one time in a land rover. At 45 mph I hit the dash with my knees and hit the mirror with my seat belt on. Friend in another vehicle said each wheel was independently leaving the ground. We had to stop before the rig could unbind.

Thought you could keep me away did ya.....

haha

Indiana too. Insurance totalled the popcan after the rollover but the title is still free and clear of a salvage title...not that it makes it worth anymore...

Neal's insurance totaled his Xterra after the tree incident at the Badlands and he bought it back and had a salvage title. He straightened the frame and put a bumper on it, called a LEO to check the VIN and the BMV gave him a rebuilt title. I dunno, maybe they are more strict about it now. It sounded like with the salvage title it couldn't be insured/registered but it's all good with the rebuilt title.

Ok so it wasn't just me...

I had fought trying to get the election polls posted up all morning...just now got it done. Go and vote suckers, the fate of this club is in your hands!

Cheese "get your vote awn" Man

Didn't he build something else that was pretty cool too? A CJ or something? I remember you telling me about it.

I'll see what I come across.

Death Wobble means you had to stomp on your brakes and come to a complete stop after the incident happened, and when the incident happened you thought you were going to die and felt like the front of the Jeep was going to fall off...anything else is a wobble.

agreed. I've had wobble and death wobble. Very very different.
96 XJ death wobble: I saw sideways scrub marks on my tire tread after I stopped to check if anything broke. When I hit the brakes at 65 there was a rhythmic nature to the tire chirping because the sideways forces were making the tires slide in time with the oscillations.
91 MJ death wobble: loud clunking, tires chirping, followed by a sickening CLUNK, the headlights dimming, the alt warning light coming on, and me pulling over to find that my pass side motor mount bracket had broken loose from the block and put a frame bolt through the side of my alternator as the motor fell. My mirrors were all misadjusted and the steering wheel wasn't straight anymore.
5 ton death wobble: threw my 60lb toolbox across the passenger floorboard, loud chirping, cars coming the other way braked and pulled to the side of the road, and I could feel the front tires alternately hopping off the ground. It tore 3/4" chunks out of the side lugs. I nearly shit myself.

dunno haven't had a smashed up vehicle in a while, maybe it depends on how the insurance company handles it. They never owned the popcan, they let me buy it back, but the title never transferred hands. Maybe they were so pissed off that they didn't care.

I had a 79 Bronco that was totalled twice (by two different insurance companies on two different incidents) and still had straight title.

holy cow, Dan and Rev are running away with the elections...early predictions are that they will both win! :D

The title on the Comanche says rebuilt on it, guessing when ol' Leroy in KY destroyed the bumpers and tweaked ther fender it was considered totaled. Or maybe its because its a 2.8! :roflmao:

Yeah, it was a fully restored copper brown CJ7 with Cummins 4bt, NV4500, d300, 44/60, 37s, etc. Sweet ride...brought it to WF 08 or 09. He bought a bread truck and scrapped/sold all but the motor for that one.

We are looking at undamaged XJs now, thinking that the additional cost can be recovered by selling the unused parts.

Yeah, I remember seeing him at your place once as well with it. The 4bt, that's what I was forgetting.

If you have a pick and pull near you that would be where I would start, they seem to have very affordable prices on stuff.

Don't those sell for about 3k?

I just installed the triple fan setup from Dirtbound Offroad last night. It works like a charm, keeps the jeep running around 195* with no problems. With the old clutch fan and worn out aux. fan i couldn't keep the motor under 210*.

bm 'been driving the XJ around town rather than the '11 Ram' yohn
