Important

That's sort of the obvious solution, but it won't change today's situation.

If he's dealing with a post-dated check (may be some legal issues with that, IIRC,) direct deposit will allow the employer to pretty much make the deposit at their whim. If they're really shady about it, I suppose they could rig the payroll advice notice to show the proper date, and make the deposit 3 business days later, hoping no one will scream fraud. If he's got a check, that's a promise to pay.

Shoot, FTM, if it's a post-dated check, I'd try to present it for cash at the bank it's drawn on.

Nothing shady going on at the company. Our normal payday is Friday. They hand out checks today but no way to get them in the bank since they are closed. Some days I wish I wouldn't have rejoined the work force.

I am direct deposited and normally get paid today, but my work moved pay day up a day.

Oh, it's a banking holiday today, isn't it.

FWIW, a direct deposit transaction can be tagged for pretty much any date. Reasonable folks will advance to the next earlier business day. ADP had one of my g'f's previous employers buffaloed so badly that they we convinced that the deposit had to happen on the next succeeding business day.

Going to try to get the motor pulled in dad's grand tonight...

I don't really have motivation, but I have friends, pizza, and beer...

looks like I'm gonna be hitting the bars in chicago and/or madison tomorrow evening and possibly sunday evening. Who's down?

I get direct deposit on Thursday, unless there is a holiday on Monday, then pay day is Friday.

The only reason I can see is to hold their money for one more day before it becomes ours..

I get paid on the 10th and the 25th. If a payday falls on a Saturday, we get paid on Friday. If it falls on a Sunday, we get paid on Monday. I went directly to the bar last night and didn't get my check deposited. I'll be in there tomorrow morning to make the deposit...Last night was way worth it.

Wish I could make it out just to meet you.

The 1st and the 15th every month. If it falls on a weekend, I get paid Friday. If monday is a holiday, I get paid friday.

The real kicker is this: DFAS sends the money as early as the 23rd of every month. The banks collect interest on it until the 1st.

Just busted my ass on the cold pavement

Picked up a newtome BMX to just ride around with the kid now its turning into a second hobby

26 yr old 245 lb kid is all I am

I get a check every week and I deposite it every week. Somedays its a mad dash to the bank before they close. I work 45 min from my bank and get off work at 5. It can be done. My previous employer made us switch to direct deposite. Id rather have a check in my hand to deposite than never see the transaction.

At least you got paid. I get paid today but no way to put the check in the bank:flamemad: You stay classy upper management...

Banks round here close at 4PM except on Fridays they are open until 6. Unless of course it is any kind of holiday (major or minor) then they are closed.

Love the direct deposit though, no matter if the bank is closed or not I get paid.

My company doesn't offer it otherwise it wouldn't be an issue. It is what it is. I have the check and will have to make an early stop tomorrow but now funds will be released a day or two late. Oh well.

Direct deposit would help me out in a couple ways. But to be as diplomatic as possible about the company that gives me my checks, it isn't uncommon for hiccups to develop on said checks. And I'd rather have the check to provide to them if they decide to recall the check to cut another though this hasn't happened. They have so far just cut a separate check for the difference. It's a pretty big headache. But all in all, I still get paid. Just not in the timely manner as they said I would. And I'm not alone. It seems that it's a 50/50 shot as to whether or not your check will be accurate.
