yeah, we did the same on the way to Moab, real handy for the mobile weather updates.

Have a safe trip.

that's how I ended up with a power inverter at a truck stop somewhere in IA.

I'm a little worried at the moment, the last two times I went through the carwash with the XJ (Yes I wash it to get rid of the road salt) the voltage gauge droped, once it registered the check engine light. When I pull out of the wash it picks back up. Is this indicative of an alternator problem? Any quick input, before I start a thread about it?

I wash it so it doesn't rust away.

Mine did that a few years ago when I drove down a flooded street. I drove home, parked it, and let it dry out. It started right up and has been fine since. I don't know if the belt slips, or if the alternator has some sort of protection built in, but I haven't worried about mine at all. Probably put 30 or 40K on it since then. :dunno:

Edit- okay, I'm senile, it's not been that long. Here's my thread.

check to make sure your belt is tensioned properly, if it is, forget about it till it happens again.

Should always carry a spare serpentine belt and the tools to change it (14 or 15mm socket, extensions, ratchet) anyways, it'll leave you dead in the water and unless you keep a close eye on it, you won't see a failure coming.

When I buy a new jeep I replace the belt and stuff the old one under the back seat as a spare.

Phil started his Jeep tonight to head into town. When Jeremy (another Max-Bilt worker) pulled up in his new truck, Phil went to have a look. Jeep slipped out of park and the E-brake wasn't pulled tight enough so the Jeep began to roll towards the truck. Phil, trying to be the hero, tried to stop the Jeep. Story ends with Phil in the ER for 3 hours to find out he has a broken wrist that needs to be operated on tomorrow.

Just another night at the shop...

Oh shit, that's not good. I've learned when it comes to moving vehicles above the size of a 4-wheeler just let it happen, because you can't do much. Good luck to him.

Thanks for the tip, I've owned this one almost 40k, and I replaced the serp. in the first 8k that I owned it. I'll try to put a little extra "oomph" on the belt tomorrow and hope that fixes it.

How does a vehicle, even a jeep, slip out of park?

good day at work today since people are finally getting out there houses

a lot of battery's,alignments, tierods, and tires are being sold today even got a couple smashed rims

Well theres an issue somewhere in the linkage (grand cherokee) and you have to slam it in and out of different gears (doesn't fully engage into park/neutral/drive), so they've been using the e-brake, but that wasn't fully engaged...

Oddly enough, that was the next vehicle to go in the shop this weekend...

No extra oomph, trust me. It will kill the bearings in the alternator and seize so hard the starter won't turn it over in the quarry@Attica. ake sure it's properly tensioned, belt deflection should be 1/2-3/4" between the power steering and water pump. Or you can buy one of those fancy measuring tools.

Funny you bring this up, I bought a Gator-Back serp belt and a new tensioner bully that both need to get on B4 WF cause my issue is:

When alternator is under load (example:lights/rear defroster on, light, going around corner [high power steering pressure]) the tensioner pulley squeals something fierce....

Thx for the deflection measurements, I'll keep them in mind when new one goes on...

I didn't mean super extra oomph, just a little bit more if the tension doesn't check out.

Yeah today was the first busy day since I started at Mazda. I think I had somewhere in the neighborhood of $4k worth of work sold today. And that was just me.
