Important

My 99 CTD starts reliably at -20 without using the block heater. Shakes like a wet dog with fleas for the first 20-30 seconds, though. Driving the XJ this morning, still don't have brakes on the Dodge yet. 2" of dry snow overnight, and the roads are pretty greasy.

My XJ starts every time, doesn't care what temperature it is... :anon:

not sure how the M54A2 is gonna do though, it does have a flame heater on the intake so hopefully it'll handle it well. No cabin heat is going to suck so I might rig something up with an XJ heater core or radiator and some extra hose and stuff.

You need one of those sweet multifuel heaters with the sparkplug, cause those were a good idea.

I even found one for you:

You know you want to sit next to a diesel fueled heater in the cab.

Either that or just run some loops of heater hose around the back of the seat. Those steel seats should heat up nicely with engine coolant running around them.

yeah, I've already given eriks military surplus far too much of my money :laugh2:

agreed, no way am I installing a flame heater in the cab. The seats have a couple inches of padding on them (well the new ones I bought from TNJMurray do anyways) and won't stay all that warm, and the cabin is very drafty from all the leaks around the softtop, so I'll probably go with the heater core idea. Just not sure how big a heater core I will need... like I said, might end up using a whole XJ radiator or going to the junkyard for a smaller one.

Early 90's civic radiator, they were only half the width of the radiator opening, tallish and very skinny. inlet/outlet at the top and bottom instead of side tanks.

If you do an XJ rad I'd do a Renix era one, just so you didn't have to do anything with the cap.

I just used the Frankenspare for something productive!
The neighbor"s $#!t box Dodge broke down again and we put it between my bumper and his to push it in his garage so he could fix it out of the snow.

same dodge that you fixed the hitch on?

that dude needs a road flare to permanently solve his dodge problem.

They don't plow the back streets of Madison worth a crap. So to my surprise I see a sander with a plow in it making the rounds spreading sand like crazy, with his plow up and 2" of snow/slush mix on the street.

It don't have to make sense, it just has to cost us money ;)

You should've seen the State plow trucks around here on one of the holidays, I can't remember, maybe Christmas Eve, we were expected to get a little bit of snow, we got nothing, but they were out ALL night long throwing salt and driving around...with Holiday pay I'm assuming...

Tyler, just go buy a new 2011 silverado HD, & call it done. Warranty is worth it.

I'm getting ready to split driving duties to California. The truck we are driving is a 2009 3500 Chevy dually crew cab pulling a 42 ft enclosed gooseneck...I'm pretty sure I'll miss my Ford while I'm gone...

The new Fords are pretty sexy.....

And...they are getting great fuel economy...

My favorite was all of the ODOT trucks running around spewing salt on 2" of packed snow, and none of them even had a plow mounted.

it's the new "salt for clunkers" program... why would they pay to get old vehicles off the road when they can simply corrode them into oblivion?

well obviously they're not aware of how comfortable I am driving with holes in the floorboards.

I've got 6 inch wide, 1-2 foot long holes in the floorboards under the carpet in the front... when I go snow wheeling I can feel chunks of snow coming off my tires :roflmao:

That and I have to scrape snow and mud off the inside of my hatch glass after wheeling because large amounts come up through the holes in the floor behind the rear wheels. I hit a snowbank at speed a few days ago and there is a pile of snow the size of a transfer case on one side that I haven't bothered to shovel out yet.

Just got the call from the mechanic.... *BOTH* rear wheel cylinders were leaking on the Dodge. And the front pads were just about shot. I'm a little irritated about the fronts, I just replaced those last summer.

Same here. And im ok with it. The seats are secure.
Both sides on mine need replaced.

I've just got one hole in the MJ next to the trans tunnel. The rubber mat hides it nicely. I will overlay a new floor when it gets the rockers cut out and cage installed.

Sounds like the rears have been bleeding pressure for a while to eat up the fronts so quickly. I hate drum brakes. They're such a PITA to inspect that it never gets done.

More than likely.

I have a roof guy from sears home service giving me an estimate on a roof...

The thing is I will probably just do it myself.

We were registering at Sears for wedding stuff and got stopped...free estimate...

Mine are drivers front by the go pettle. and it rotted about 18" just inside the unibody. the "framerail" is perfect just the floorboard.
Passengers side is on the right side of the "framerail" from under the seat to the begining of the firewall
