Shift linkage / NSS isn't the problem on the truck. Nothing happens when it's in gear, and in P or N I hear a single click. Pretty sure the click I'm hearing is the plunger on the starter coming out, but it won't spin. Guessing the motor has a dead spot.

This is what I deserve for buying reman'ed crap from Autozone.

I think Ford still uses a fender mounted solenoid in addition to the starter mounted solenoid. Have you checked that?

Well, I thought about that, and I've got a voltmeter in the truck so I can check it next time it happens. I went out to the shop today and tried 3 different times and it started right up each time. It's frustrating to diagnose when it's not even consistent. I considered picking one up anyway just to be safe, but I'd like to at least get a meter on it and be sure that current isn't making it across before I drop $50+ on a solenoid. Edit: nevermind, they are less than $20, I will probably swap it anyway.

My big concern isn't how to get it to start whenever this problem happens, but to fix it permanently. If I'm out somewhere by myself without a friend or a hammer then I'm in real trouble. Unless I'm misunderstanding and the hammer trick will knock some sense into it permanently.

Yeah they did, there really is a lot of that going on down here. It's a college town so it's not uncommon to see that happen

I've had a rather frustrating 36 hours. Barely got home after work to have a big server crash at work. 2 hours online getting stuff running in alternate locations, then back to work until 12:30 repairing hardware, and moving stuff back. Today, discovered drive problems on another server...... and the courier company delivering the replacements decided that I really didn't need the parts today, and they'd deliver on Monday. Yes, phone calls were made...... and it's gonna hit the fan Monday.

yea i was worried my neighbor's junky friend would brake into my garage, i keep all the converters that are supposed to get tossed out from warranty work at my job i usually bring about 5 home at a time and when the pile gets big in the garage i sell them to this aftermarket converter guy instead of the scrap yard so i get top dollar for them had 14 total today to bad ms clause is going black Friday sale shopping this year (and i don't mean JCR's)

when i was unloading them at this shop a cop pulled up and asked wear i got all thees converters, so i told him there scrap from the dealer i work at he took my info just in case but he said he could see they weren't the stolen type they were all unbolted instead of hacksawed off and the guy i sell them too told the cop he only buys from his regular customers and nobody off the street

Dinner is being served in the garage...the ping pong table is the main table, my portable welding table is the food table. Everything has a table cloth from walmart. Should have about 12 to 14 people total with two infants...
