Important

So, I just love being the family mechanic. Everybody wants shiat done to thier stuff right now. My dad in particular really grinds my gears. He bought a 1992 F-150, 2WD, Manual with the 300 I-6. It had about 200k on it and I fixed a lot of stuff with it and he soaked a bit of $$ into it. After he had it about a year or so, it was finally in good shape. He traded it a few months ago to a guy for a 2000 F-150, 2WD, Auto with the 4.2 V6. Never been a fan of those engines, whatever. That thing had a slew of things wrong with it, no wonder the guy was eager to trade it straight up for a vehicle that was 8 years older. Well, after ball joints, brakes, some wiring, a new rear window, starter and a couple odds and ends, Dad is wanting to trade it to a guy for a 1995 Chevy 1/2 ton with the 4.3 V6 and manual. When I first heard about this idea, I told him not to do it. I asked him about the details. The guy has all the service records, he's the 3rd owner and (according to my old man) takes care of his stuff. I don't know what exactly the story is, but I'm more than likely going to be checking it over tonight for him. I'm tired of him buying junk and me being the one fixing it. Hopefully I will see enough that I can convince him that it's not a good trade and I won't inherit a new set of BS to deal with it...Whining: done. Sorry. Had to tell someone.

Try working with 450 police officers and probably 80% of them don't know a rotor from a brake drum.

I get weekly calls, can you help with this...or my car is making this sound...or I'm thinking about buying a jeep or whatever, what do you think about that, or do you know anyone that has a jeep for sale or...

i am known as the jeep guy at work.

makes me glad i'm not a professional mechanic.

my father is no better tho, he knows how to work on stuff but considers me his mechanic...when he sold me his 96 zj after he bought an 01 wj, i changed the oil in it, it had 13k on it or something near that number (original motor still kicking at 225k tho), he told me it was because i wasn't coming over to his house enough to change his oil...

thankfully the local honda/gm dealer only charges 13 bucks for an oil change so i send all my friends there cause I can't do it that cheap...my dad gets his oil changed there now too...

mac 'still have my own projects to complete' gyvr

It's not the same, but once you own a pickup, it's amazing how many "new" friends need to bring home furniture, mulch etc
You need one of those stickers; "Yes, it's my truck. No, I won't help you move."

Truly I'm just jealous of all this land everyone has... and I'm stuck here with 1/4 acre and nowhere to work on anything!

Same here 1/4 acre and the neighbors are damn near arms reach away

Same...

50k for a quarter acre is a pretty good price around here. A REALLY good price if it comes with a house.

I can crawl big Curbs by the end of the summer! :D I done got me a locked front axle with 4.10's thanks to Roxtar/his buddy! Can't pick it up until brewfest though! :(

My policy is: I am too old, fat, and lazy to help ANYONE move anymore. I did my time, I am now done.

Side note:
The Minnesota Hot Rod Assoc. has their big show this weekend in Minneapolis. I have never been so nervous pulling out of my hotel before, street rods everywhere, with no room to maneuver.....they are lucky I did not take out a panel or two.

Just picked up a Hesse Hornet air compressor.

Its an old flat head jeep motor that runs on the outer cylinders and pumps air with the middle two.

Im having one of those days. It's more than 15 minutes into my lunch hour and I'm still on the clock waiting on parts to get a motor home out of the shop. Its having a fog light issue and the lights we have use different connectors. I spliced the correct one on, but its got that damn cloth insulation and it's really screwing with my game. Im really so furious I could toss my cookies. The manufacturer is litterally 200 yards down the road...lets see what kind of screwed up deal they gave us to fix this issue...
Edit: HAHAHAHAHAH! These jackasses give me the whole fog light kit @ $66 to replace a $3 bulb! Im seriously doubting the customer will find the juice worth the squeeze.

Seriously... every 3 months some property adjacent to you comes up for sale.

What the hell are you doing to make all your neighbors leave? :D

they are all going broke or divorcing......or both :D

$14k for 7 acres and a shed sounds cheap.

Scoring land like that is why my extended family owns most of Auglaize County, OH :D

It really is in the grand scheme of things, but in january I bought the 115 acres around the house for less then $1200/ac...

Knowing Tyler, they just can't take seeing him wandering around the farm naked and covered in nacho cheese. :D
You have been watching again huh?

Technically, if you're covered in nacho cheese, you are not naked.

True that...

Same here 1/4 acre and the neighbors are damn near arms reach away

That is the reason I moved from the city.....

Well, the guy bought the kit so he could get the single bulb out of it. I offered him $50 for the rest of the kit...he took it. I'll do some wiring magic and have rear lights or rock lights for the Jeep. Lets hope the day keeps going up from here. I need a cigarette...

Travis, that compressor looks neat. Never heard of that idea before, I guess at some point they figured out it's easier to drive a compressor off of the belt. Definitely a cool idea to use the combustion cylinders for compressing the air though. And how many people get to say "my air compressor is water cooled"?

I bought a portable ac for the garage today. 97 degrees = 105-110 heat index and being fat don't work......

I hear ya man...I haev been contemplating using a biy window AC and building a frame for it to sit in and then putting it under the garage door and letting the door sit/seal on top of it. Worked in my old garage, so should work at the new place too. Ideally it would be mounted up higher for the cool air to "drop" to the floor instead of pushing the cool air across the floor, but anything is better then 95 and high humidity!

Agreed. The only thing worse than working on a jeep in a few inches of snow and slush is working on a jeep in tropical weather...

I'm actually working on building an air compressor like that. Friend of mine (moparmaniac) gave me a 2.5L/ECU/radiator/assorted drivetrain junk, so I'm feeding one cylinder's exhaust port into an air tank and rerouting the intake since it's TBI.

We had a portable A/C unit in a small server room at work for a while, and it has since been replaced. It's been sitting around for a couple months now, and I was recently informed that it will be finding its way to the dumpster...

...Or my truck bed. Now if only I had room in the garage for it.

Brad, I took a page from your 'hoe days. Picked up some screen and magnets at Menards for the rear windows on the Jeep since I am sleeping in it tomorrow night.

Sunday can't get here soon enough. We are leaving for South Carolina for a friends wedding and our first family vacation/road trip in 6 yrs. Rather than wear ourselves out driving 14 hours straight through we are going to stop in Louisville crash there. On Monday we are going to stop at the Louisville Slugger Museum and on the way out of town we are going to stop by the Makers Mark Distillery in Loretto (sp?). And from there head to the beach. My wife is in the wedding so me and my son are going to have to find something to do.

To those close to Louisville anything else we should stop and check out while we are in town. I think the trip home is going to be 14hrs straight through.

I saw a 360 Dodge V-8 that was half air compressor. four on one side were powered, and the other four were for the A/C. I do not remember what it ran, it was in a shop being worked on when I saw it.
