I've messed with the torsion springs. They're no big deal, as long as you pay close attention to what you're doing.

loosening the tension should be less scary than more tension.

I helped a friend install the new version that has a winder adjuster on the end of the torsion spring. It had a bolt that you tightened to create moe tension. Worked great but there was quite a bit of plastic there which makes me wonder how long before it goes bang.

I did replace the cables on my doors when I bought my house. Not much too it. Just keep your body out of the way of the adjuster tool. Best to have a friend there for an extra set of hands. Take your time and you should be fine.

I have the torsion springs with the pulleys on the ends with the cable that goes to the bottom of the door...

one of the cables broke...

I haven't had a chance to even look at it. Grace called me at work to tell me that the door wouldn't go down (she took trash out or something). I went home from work to find that the door really in fact wouldn't go down. I found the broken cable. There is a very short length connected to the right side of the door at the bottom. the cable is connected at the top to the pulley...

I had grace pull up on the right side as hard as she could while i slowly pushed down with her letting up a little bit...finally after having the door go of track and throw a rollar we got it down and secured for the night. I went back to work. I went home slept 45 mins and went to work at the school.

And when I get home I'm crashing to go work tonight, so I've got a day or two to for research before I attempt a fix or make the call...

my mother moved to AZ last year. people out there are stupid rich. anyways some construction company gave her an xj. all it needed was a water pump. anyways it turned out this thing was actually in pretty good shape. (except paint) the clear coat has peeled off but the tan int is like new, runs great, no rust, and has half as many miles as mine. well, she got a different vehicle cause she didnt like the jeep and she gave it to me. so in 2 weeks im flying out there with a buddy and we`re driving it back. its a 95 2dr 2wd 5sp. im gonna swap the 4wheel drive over from my blue 4dr and sell the 4dr as a 2wd. then keep this one to wheel. ill also be adding a 4in lift, swapping my wheels,tires, and bumpers over. what you think? any thoughts or ideas?

this is my current xj that ill be swapping everything over
