worked the last four nights...the quadruple time the last two nights makes up for having to celebrate the new year tomorrow night...well tonight now...i'll take it, got a new furnace to pay for...

Use the ping test to find the best server and run the test again. You've probably just got a back connection.

If you have cable, you're also sharing the node with other people in your area. Sometimes that really affects your speed.
 
I need to study up on connection speeds. I know you want Ping as low as possible and of course the upload and download as fast as possible. I don't understand how ping corolates to the up/down speeds. Some of you have good up/down speeds but, have a much higher ping than I do. Just curious as to how that breaks down into overall actual speed.

Here's mine. I guess its ok. I can be running multiple computers and an Xbox Live and never see any lag. Must be good then i suppose.

Upload/download speeds tell you how much data will transfer in each direction in a certain period of time.

Ping tells you how long it takes for a packet of data to reach a destination. Obviously, the more network hops a packet has to take, the longer the ping times will be. This is also why you want to run a speed test against a server that is close by, i.e a low hop count (or ping time.)

If you're just browsing the net, downloading email, or that type of thing, ping times really aren't that important.

Low ping times, aka "latency," are far more important if you're gaming online (reporting your activity to the server, and getting other player's info back quickly) or using a Virtual Private Network. VPNs are quite sensitive to round trip times. I can't use a VPN connection to work from my sister's house, she's got a microwave hop to her ISP with a high latency issue.

drug home one of the little Nissan chore trucks today w/ a blown tranny...going to look into it in a bit, not sure if I am going to fix it back to be a chore truck or possibly thinking about "Project Farm Truggy" pics to follow........
